E-On smart meter free?

Has anyone had one of these fitted? In the blurb it says the meter is "fitted for free", but is the free part just the fitting, or is the meter free also?
Virgin Media do something similar, like, "comes with free installation", but you actually have to purchase a unit - is it the superhub? But a careful play on words anyway.
Just wanted to check before I sign up.
Thanks guys.

No, it is free.
The government has mandated the suppliers to fit smart meters into every home by 2019. The suppliers are trialling the meters now. I was due to have them fitted, unfortunately, my electricity meter was in a custom built box and the new meter was slightly bigger so they would have had to break the box to change it. Otherwise I would have had it fitted.
Of course, when I say free, I mean you don't have to pay for your meter. However, as anything in this world, the ultimate cost of the smart meter rollout will be recouped by the suppliers through the cost of energy.0 -

These things often do appear too good to be true, but we're really excited about the Smart roll out here!“Official Company Representative
