Everything says 'may contain traces of nuts' nowadays. The manufacturers are just covering their asses but it's not helpful because people could get complacent.

Well it's the modern western society blame culture that's caused that.

Something I thinks gone too far but other relish on, for self gain of course!

Evidence of that is plastered all over this forum.

You know what? If people do become complacent they'll just blame the manufacturers!

I didn't think Cadburys was one of the brands that nut allergy suffers could eat generally anyway? I know my Mother in law has a nut allergy and has said for the past few years she can't have Cadburys.

I'm so glad that my packet of cashew nuts says "This product may contain nuts" - I may not have realised this !

Your right about Cadburys not being suitable for people with nut allergys. When my son was diagnosed with his nut allergy we wrote to all major manufaturers and Cadburys were one of the ones who replied and suggested it was best that since he has a high allergy to nuts it would be best not to use any of there products.

Cadburys do or did run certain lines that carry no nut products on equip that has never been used for nut products.

Its important to know if items are made on the same line as nut products, theres a huge difference between something that says may contain nut traces ( this could be peanut and not Tree nut ) and something says before being prepared for manufacture of this product, the equipment was previously used to make products containing nuts.

The first one is ok the latter could kill

I just wish more manufacturers would clearly state if it peanut or tree nut, my DD can eat peanut !

Actually, Cadbury's has always been one of my 'safe' brands. The latest recall is annoying because I'm going to have to take Cadbury's off that very small list for the next few months, and I do love it so!

Those with nut allergies quickly find out which companies are faking it with their "may contain nut traces" signs, and which companies really do mean it. I wish they'd be more helpful, e.g. if a particular product is produced on a line which also handles X, Y and Z types of nuts, could they not put that on the packaging? If no nuts are involved, a little sign saying "There are no nuts in this product, but we're scaredy cats, so here's a legal disclaimer anyway" would be most useful. :rotfl:

But I do digress. Good on Cadbury's for admitting there's a real problem, and for recalling the chocolate. It's annoying, but I understand that mistakes do happen, and at least they're being honest about it.
