However, I'm baffled by the statement "Google Earth SAYS...."
Google Earth, Google Maps, etc all show images.
What does the OP mean by this?
Google earth indicates... It's not really important though is it, I can see what they mean and whether it says, indicates or sings a tune, it's pretty irrelevant to the OP, no?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Its the built in compass in the image
which shows the direction google earth, not the House, is facing.Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.
Actively hunting down the person who invented the imaginary tenure, "share freehold"; if you can show me one I will produce my daughter's unicorn0 -
If you don't have a compass then I think you can download an application to your smart phone to show you - I think my hubby's phone came with it or that he downloaded it.0

A compass is a darned sight cheaper than a smartphone0 -

I put my house up for sale last year with the web address for it on google earth/maps.
When I checked it before uploading to the advertising site it kept going to the rubbish house next door.
I contacted Google and they changed it.
The orientation of your house is of prime importance to many buyers. So get Google to check it out.

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
If you look out your front door and the sun travels left to right as the day progresses, then you are facing south. If you were facing north, the sun would be behind you, at your back, still passing from east to west, i.e. as would happen if you were looking out your back door.
If the sun is to the left of your front window at 1pm, then the front of your house is facing south but angled toward to west. As the sun rises from the east, by 1pm it has travelled almost halfway along its path, so if it hasn't passed your door yet, it means your door is further west than due south i.e. facing southwest!
My house faces northwest. In the morning, I open my back door and the rising sun floods the kitchen floor from the left. Later in the morning and early afternoon, the sun comes in my back windows. Late afternoon and evenings the sun hits my west gable wall and my front windows, therefore the front of my house faces toward the north and is angled toward the west.
BUT when I go into Google street view, and stand with my back to my front door, it tells me I'm facing northeast, so I think I get what you're saying, OP.
I can't explain it though! These kinds of things always get me thoroughly confused.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.
