The Post Office address system verification is rubbish.

When I sent a RD to my local Hospital of all places it had a big "no" under address validated. There is no way my Hospitals post code and be classed as not valid under a decent system!

it says no because the didnt verify the address
  • When I had a recorded parcel go missing it ended up in Belfast, they said it had no return address ( I put one on all parcels) but when I rang them to find out about the parcel they managed to find it due to the recorded delivery details and then returned it to me by special delivery at no extra cost.

That's all well and good if it works, but if I get my item back it's still gonna be faulty. It seems neither the Royal Mail nor the seller want to take responsibility for the cost of the item, and the seller seems to have given me a phoney address.. (I had a look on Google Street View for a "warehouse" and found a residential street!)
  • I was denied a lost item claim due to a faulty postcode - return label was on parcel but I never saw it again.
I emailed the buyer to let them know that the address on their paypal was incorrect, never heard back from them either!

I suppose unfortunately its the sellers responsibility to ensure that the item has a valid postcode, other RM can't be liable for not delivering to an address that doesn't exist (which makes sense). Just another think we have to check before sending every item.
  • Good news! After emailing the seller to enquire about the return address, he has been good enough to offer to resend me my item! I'm now going to put more thought into using eBay, including buying from sellers registered in the UK only, with an address I can verify, and I may even choose a different courier for my outgoing mail!
    Any suggestions?

You'd still struggle with compensation though if it got lost- so I don't see what you gain?
