I've been comping since Nov 2009 and learnt quickly only to enter for things I want or can give to family and friends. My first win was for a Double Arched indoor doorway kit from a DIY website and I ended up giving it away to someone I didnt know.I have been lucky enough to win some lovely prizes for myself and my family.I have won a lot of hair and beauty products, toys and books which have all been lovely extra's for us.My best win was my Mobile phone.I am now trying to concentrate more on comps that require more effort.

I enter those that I, my children and DH would want and things I can give to immediate family as presents. I think if it's meant to happen it will but sometimes I do think that I am naturally unlucky so it might take forever! But I'm willing to wait ;)

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time

Have been wondering if the date you enter has any effect though? ... most of the time I fail to get ahead of myself and am only entering those that finish the next day.....and had a very lovely but fairly modest year in 2011. Hmmm....

    Good luck all x

I go by end date. I'd said about 99% of wins were the ones I entered the day before it closed :D

I also just enter the ones I want to win, for two reasons. Firstly, as others have said, I don't have the space for some prizes and holidays aren't always good for me as I have a 12 year old daughter and most comps don't cater for her. the other reason is that I really don't want to take a prize from someone who really does want it, so if it's not something I want (or one of my immediate family would enjoy) I leave it for someone else. That's probably why I haven't had a win yet this month though :rotfl:

I agree with this. Every comp I have won I have entered in the last couple of days before the end date. I always sort the forum by end date and just work through each day entering what I would like to win.

The funniest one was when a work mate asked me to enter a comp for him (as he thinks I am lucky) to win a VIP day at the Superbikes at Croft Circuit, Darlington. The comp was due to finish at the end of the day and I emailed the answer at lunchtime and got a call back within an hour stating I had won.

    Hi

I've been comping on and off for over a year, I only enter the one's that I can use or that I can give to my Kids (even tho they are all grown up lol), in all that time I have only ever won 2 comps both dvds, but I'm not sad or mad about it, if I win I win if I dont well, I've not lost what I never had in the first place.

but here's to a great 2012 for every MSEr

Hi, how do you sort forum by end date? Thanks.
  • I have been a member of Competitors Companion (now Compers News) for a few years great mag loads of good advice and listings for hundreds of comps - I have won a few things though I must say I am a sporadic comper - I have periods of going at it quite religiously and others where I totally go off the ball - I have entered lucky dip comps and ones where you have to try harder, writing a tiebreaker for example - obviously more chance with a comp harder it is as the entries are lower if there is more effort involved but thats not to say you can't win in a lucky dip - I won through a local paper too (they are good as again not so many entries as national comps) - in a local paper comp I won 2 x £25 garden centre vouchers and only entered once! I also won a weekend break via a tiebreak comp in a local paper, the whole range of FCUK toiletries in a national mag lucky dip and last year a £500 cottage holiday (of my choice) through a lucky dip in a mational magazine - I've had a few prizes for letters sent to magazines - for sending in a 'top tip' etc so worth having a go at lots of different types - I only enter for things I want to win though, don't see the point otherwise and don't want it to become a chore.

I only enter the comps I want to win, but also enter comps that I think family and friends would like too. Sometimes I do get the odd prize turning up that nobody wants (even though I think they would :() so these either get put on ebay or given to my children's school for their raffles.

I wouldn't enter anything that I really didn't want, usually football tickets, fishing things, etc.

As we're on a limited wage these wins come in really handy for birthday and Christmas :)
