Change of comping approach

Hi everyone,

I was just wanting a bit of advice really. I have been comping for three years now and probably get a win a month/ every six weeks if I'm being lucky. But I've never been able to break the £50 prize mark - my biggest one was £50 of itunes vouchers.

I only enter the comps I actually want to win, and am honestly not trying to be greedy because everything I win is something I want (usually DVDs) but after three years it would be nice to get something as a proper treat.

So I was just wondering what everyone else's approach is - should I be entering every comp, not just the ones I want? Or do I just keep chipping away and hope to break the £50 prize barrier at some point in the future.

Don't get me wrong - I am happy with my DVDs and make up and books, but I was just wondering what other people are doing.

Thanks in advance for all your help

xx

    Good luck hun!

I enter things that I would want, my partner or kids would want, and my immediate family would want. For instance, my uncle loves fishing & photography, so I enter those types of comps - if I won something, I'd put it away for his birthday or Christmas. I don't tend to enter many holiday ones, as many are for 2 people only. I do enter the ones for a family of 4, as my DD1 is coming up 12, so will pass as an adult, and the OH would stay home (he hasn't got a passport HAHAHA).

I know a lot of people enter everything, but they could end up with a lot of things they don't want. I've had runners-up prizes which are no good to me or my family, so I've passed it on to my daughters school for a raffle prize.

Just have fun, don't let it seem like a chore.

I enter the comps that I actually want the stuff, but do think on behalf of family/friends too :)

I only enter for what I want or what someonein the family would like as a gift. The bigger and better the proze the more people wanting it so you have less chance anyway. Do you ever look at the text/postal comps. Sometimes you can get big prizes from these as less people eter (especially postals) there are people on here who have had their best wins from a text comp

  • Thanks that is good to know - like I say, I am always happy with my prizes when I get them and I would probably me more disheartened if I ended up winning more prizes but it being stuff that were no use to me or my family.

I'll stick with my current approach and hope for a little bit of extra luck this year!

  • I too only enter things that I want and for my OH, Mother and Brother. Living in a London flat, i'm a bit strapped for space so entering every single comp might generate wins i wouldn't know what to do with and probably wouldn't want! That and it's MUCH more satisfying to win something that you do want. I personally would suggest carry on as you are for that reason but if you do want to "win" more, then do enter every comp or as StokieBecks says, postal and text comps. Good luck :) xXx
You'll never know if you don't try!
  • When I started comping years ago I entered most comps but to be honest I did end up winning prizes that although they were lovely I wouldn't have used some much or they would sit unloved in a upboard. I also found the suprise of opening an unexpected win to be a bit rubbish if it's not something you would like, it's always much better knowing whatever comes through the door is going to be something fantastic.

I am very picky about what I enter these days, I don't win as much as I used to but then I have a toddler now so don't really enter much but what I do win I enjoy and find I have a great win each month since culling the entries and a few bits and bobs. I found if anything it has helped curb my impulsive spending which is why I started comping.

Obviously there is no guarantee of winning anything by entering, and some are born lucky - lucky in cards, unlucky in love as they say. If your not enjoying it take a break. Many compers have done this when chasing the prize became more important and frustrating than them actually enjoying entering (myself included) then when you go back feeling refresed hopefully you will have a lovely win.

I'd suggest you carry on just entering for prizes that you like the look of, but that you make an extra effort to increase your entries.

There are several comping sites, listing loads of competitions. Many are duplications but most list a few which are different. It#s well worth a scroll through each day.

Hopefully with more entries, you will soon scope a few more (and better) prizes.

    Good luck with your entries.

I only enter for things I want, or would do my parents, cousins who are children still and up until November I was entering for my OH too but we have now broke up. I always seem to do quite well though, prehaps I just want more stuff lol!
    2009 Wins = £833
    2010 Wins = £6,597
    2011 Wins = £7,083

    £2,012 in 2012 = £450/£2,012
    20 in 2012 = 4/20
  • I only enter for prizes I'm interested in as well. I've not actually won many prizes through random draws. The majority of my big value wins (the last one being a holiday to Lapland) have been won through effort competitions - tiebreakers, videos, photos and so on. Obviously less people tend to enter the effort competitions, so if you've got the time to put in, they're definately worth a go :)
    Best of 2011: London Trip,Hot Air Balloon,£1660, phone,Kindle,Trip to Lapland! Total 2011 wins: £6865
Best of 2012: Trip to Disneyland Paris, £1665 cash/vouchers, trip to Harrogate, trip to Birmingham, £230 vacuum, 2 x mobile phones, Olympics tickets! Total 2012 wins: £6624
  • I simply don't have the time to enter for the prizes I am not that interested in on top of the ones I am! :D;) Usually target the good times i.e. theatre/cinema/meals out and then drool over ipads, holidays and new kitchens waiting for the day the comping fairy says ok, fine - your turn!:D

Have been wondering if the date you enter has any effect though? ... most of the time I fail to get ahead of myself and am only entering those that finish the next day.....and had a very lovely but fairly modest year in 2011. Hmmm....

    Good luck all x
