Split Ticketing ...Oxenholme to Newcastle?

Hi all.
I need to travel from Oxenholme to Newcastle on Friday 13th April, returning on Sunday 15th April (Easter weekend).
I know the tickets are not yet on sale, but I have been trying out other weekend dates to get "an idea" of cost.
I may have got this wrong. The return fare is £42.40.
But ..... If I split the tickets I can get from Oxenholme to Carlisle for £7.50.
Then buy an open return from Carlisle to Newcastle for £18.
Then on the Sunday, buy another single from Carlisle to Oxenholme for £7.50.
Total price £35
Have I got this correct?

Seems fine. Is there not a open return for Oxenholme to Carlisle? And does the train stop at Carlisle, as it must stop at the point your tickets 'meet'.0

An Off Peak Return from Oxenholme to Carlisle costs £14.90, and despite the name is actually valid on any train (i.e. regardless of time) on this route. So the OP shouldn't bother with getting £7.50 Advance tickets each way for this journey.0

You could try this;
A £29.60 Clapham North Yorks to Newcastle Anytime Return route Carlisle is valid via Oxenholme. Fully flexible ticket so no worries of catching certain trains and as an Anytime ticket has the ability to break your journey as required. Just start your journey 'long' at Oxenholme and on the way back finish your journey 'short' at Oxenholme.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

I have to change trains at Carlisle anyway..... I will look into it more closely next week, when we book our hotel.
