Anyone used Thomann?

Want to buy an instrument (trumpet) for my son. I knew the brand and when I googled it came up with Thomann.de. As far as I can see, they look really good and reliable, but just thought I'd see if anyone from MSE had experience of them before I take the plunge?

I've bought from Thomann on several occasions - mostly specialist hardware such as special keyboard stands and bulk packs of cables, and on one occasion a PC sound card, items that weren't available from local suppliers. They arrived promptly and well packed; they sent various SMS about order progress including the name of the person dealing with my order. For this sort of product, they are very satisfactory.
However, as I've said previously, I purchase from local dealers whenever possible - I want them around when I want to try gear out, or if I need after-sales service. I would certainly buy an instrument, and for sure any acoustic instrument, from or through a retailer I can deal with face-to-face. Try taking your quote from Thomann along to your local shop - dealers here have always been willing to match the price.0 -

Thanks for that. Thomann are quoting soooo much cheaper for the equivalent instrument I am after I worry no-one could come close to matching the price, but will certainly give it a go as I also want a flute for my daughter so are looking to spend a fair amount so discounts might be forthcoming!MFW 2019#24 £9474.89/£11000 MFW 2018#24 £23025.41/£15000

We bought mixers, decks, electronic drum pads etc from this company approx 4 years ago. Had no issues. Prompt delivery. Goods arrived well packaged. Still receive paper from them every few months with offers (despite the gear going the same way as most fads !!)0

ive used them, and yes soo much cheaper. they delivered well but my concern might have been cost of returning as NL based0

My husband uses them a lot and never had any problems and they are often lots cheaper than anywhere else. He has never had to return anything so can't help with that.0

I do not intend to speak a word against Thomann - when I have dealt with them, their service has been outstanding. I say only that there are some services that a local music shop can offer, so ask you to give them every chance to earn your trade!
Thomann are always competitive on pricing, although I have never found them far different from UK suppliers on branded items. They do have some good "own-brand" deals (such as cables and stands that I mentioned before, and sometimes low-end microphones) and they hold a huge stock of hard-to-find items. I will deal with them again, I'm sure, and without the slightest hesitation.
Regarding trumpets, do check that you are comparing like deals. Brass instruments do vary in finish, for example, and manufacturers offer slightly different packages in different markets even within Europe. I looked at one or two trumpet offers. Taking the Yamaha 1335, their basic beginner's trumpet, for example, Thomann's price is around £250 for the lacquer model, whereas the UK dealers are quoting £310.
But Thomann's offer says it includes a "gig bag" (not pictured) whereas the UK dealers include a good Yamaha case. I've spent so much money on instrument repairs over the years that I never buy an instrument without investing in a decent case. If the trumpet is for a child or teenager, you really need a good case. Even if they look after them well, one of their friends or bandmates may be less careful. £60 is quite reasonable.
Interestingly, there is little difference between Thomann's price and that of UK dealers for even slightly more expensive trumpets, which Thomann offer with cases rather than gig bags.0 -

I could probably part-ex my DD's flute and get the trumpet for the same price but with a hard case and then use Thomann to buy the flute (it's £250 below the UK rrp) as that comes with a proper case etc and is the same as i'd get here. I'll try haggling on the flute, but the shop I have in mind is selling it for £200 more than Thomann and I can't see them matching the price.
Really appreciate the advice!MFW 2019#24 £9474.89/£11000 MFW 2018#24 £23025.41/£15000

Hello
I've purchased from Thomann twice in the last year; both times purchashing several items. The delivery was very fast and all the items were well packaged and in immaculate condition. The prices were also fantastic. Great selection of items too. Very highly recommended from me.Sealed Pot Challenge 5 #1562
