Shares - What happened to my Halifax Shares?

Years ago when Halifax issued shares i was given some since i had an account with them. Must be over 10 years ago. Since then Halifax went through some difficulties etc and got taken over. I did receive some information years ago but can't recall what it said.
My question is what happened to my Halifax shares? Were they written off when they got taken over? Am i right in saying i don't have any now or that they are worth nothing?
Will try to find the paperwork over the weekend so that i can contact them.
Thanks for any advice given.

Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

They were taken over by Lloyds TSB and are now Lloyds Banking Group shares.
Each one is worth about 17p. A bit of a drop from £11.00+.
So for every Halifax share you got 0.602 LBG shares. They were around 28p each last night0 -
owch that is like 99% loss. Could always be worse by 1%
For maximum devastation visualisation I like to use the FT tool.
HBOS obviously went the way of the dinosaurs so this is Lloyds, 'what if I had invested'.
Thanks to divs, they are slightly better. 94% of capital lost if held for 13 years. The tail end of 2008 I was arguing they were near fair valuemaybe one day

I have a similar problem, I am now 24 and remember my great nan created me and my sister a Halifax bank account years ago 'the ones with the blue wallet' when we were still too young to understand my great nan and my parents made the decision to sell our savings for shares (i do believe this is how it was) back then which is easily 12-14 years ago or more I can vaguely remember £17 a month been paid into each account, not a bad investment for when we turned 18/21.... but our mother was the only other name on the accounts and since my great nan died our mum has gone awol and this money never been seen ? what has happened to this? does my Mother have the authority to withdraw or sell the shares ? is there anything I can do without paperwok ?

Thanks for helping me home in on the lost A/Cs website P00hsticks. Once I had submitted the first request, their final page informs you that it could be up to 12 weeks before you get a reply. Having now spent the time resurrecting as much lost A/C details as poss, guess what? Sitting back and waiting for the next 12 weeks was just the motivation needed. Taking a quick trip into the High Street next week to speak to unfamiliar cashiers and front-of-house managers will be a doddle as now armed with A/C details... and with the advent of computers, the branches should be able to produce close of A/C cheques pronto. Holiday beckons!
Can I urge other people in the same situation to do same??0 -

You mean it can always be worse by 100%, you cant add 99% to 1%0 -
Depends on accounting methods or lack of them
