How long did it take you to get back into work?

In 1 week searching I have applied for 6 jobs, I thought that was quite decent for a rural area. Are things really as bad as is made out? How long has it taken you to get back into full time work?

It took me about nine months to get a job and I must have applied for hundreds. I was shocked at how long it took. I started looking in September 2010 and was back in work June 2011. I was looking for admin roles in Leeds.
It took my husband a lot longer but he was looking for a much higher level role. He was made redundant in July 2010 and finally got a similar job to his last one in December 2011.There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0 -
I have been applying for 2-5 jobs since October and haven't been invited to any interviews.
This is a first for me as I've always been lucky in getting whatever job I've applied for - this last happened 5 years ago.
I know this isn't what this thread is for, but just wanted to let you know OP that yes it is grim out there.

a year to get back into work here, granted i wasn't applying for jobs very far away from home (5m range) but given it took me that long & 3-4 unsuccesful interviews (some of which i'm pretty glad i didn't get the job to be honest!) but that's just the nature of chasing low level jobs. Fortunately i appear to have landed a good, albeit part time job which has also added to my skillset, so next time round i'll have more strings to my bow so to speak, but i don't envy anyone job hunting at the moment, especially with places closing all over the place!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

There are a few I have applied for I hope I don't get like working in a concrete plant or a meat factory all for min wage.0 -
I apply for about 3 a week sometimes I have applied for up to 10 a week, I rely on public transport in a rural area which hinders me but I have had 7 interviews since May 2011.
I have been invited to 2 interviews next week, sadly the location of 1 of them means I'll not be able to get to the job.0 -

My buses are OK but they take a long time to get into town and stick to the main routes. Earliest is 710am Mon-Fri too but it is enough to get in the way.
It is a catch 22 I want to learn to drive but can't do so without a job, even if I could drive I'd not be running a car while on JSA.0 -
Just under 6 months - then 2 came along at once ! One awful awful retail one via the job centre & one highly enjoyable clerical role via my own efforts . . .DFW NERD# 1175Proud Member of Sealed Pot Challenge #5 ~ 1479 cashless_wonder~*DEBT FREE & LOVING IT*~
