Any (helpful/legal/keep it clean!!) suggestions on what job I could do ?

Without going into too much detail I have a disability and have been through occ health at work and DWP access to work and have been provided with specialist equipment.

I currently manage on my salary 22 hours per week and get tax credits, Ch benefit & maintenance whilst my son is in ft education. However this will not be forever and as I am not eligible for other benefits (i have no mobility issues and can walk fair distance and care for myself) and my condition is improving, I need to start looking to increase my income and so am looking for more work.

As I am only able to stand for short time and can only sit for short time i dont want more clerical work as this may worsen my condition. I am not able to do shop/supermarket work. Any advice ?

Unsure what to suggest given your criteria but you didn't disclose what it is exactly that you do for 22 hours per week currently? That said, my best wishes to you for trying to make the best of life. :)

I'm also unsure what to suggest given your criteria.

People pretty much spend all of their time either walking, standing, sitting, or lying - discounting the runners, swimmers and other sporty peeps. So, if you're ruling out standing and sitting, that sounds like you're asking for advice on work that you can do lying down (I see why you told us you wanted it kept clean...)

That's difficult! All I can think of are jobs that involve you spending most of your time talking, and all of them require specialist skills (eg some types of translation work might be possible, but that's a useless suggestions if you don't have the language skills).

Sorry I should have been a bit more specific. I currently work in a call centre. I have adjustable equipment which allows me to alternate between standing and sitting to avoid working in one position for too long. I am managing 22 hours per week but do not want to increase my hours or do more clerical/desk work elsewhere.
Someone suggested dog walking but I'm not sure this would bring in much money. I have also thought about working from home maybe internet based which will allow me to get up and move around at will, but I don't have a clue where to start or whether the income would be regular enough.
Does anyone have any other ideas ?

Ah. In that case maybe the "up your income" board would give you some ideas? It sounds as though you want some sort of self-employed thing where you can choose your own hours depending on how you feel, and there are lots of suggestions over there.

I looked at this earlier and my own thoughts from your first post tie up with how you've decribed your situation in the second. Are you sure you couldn't consider retail work, I wondered if it might be possible for you to do something like shelf stacking, perhaps with the employer making 'reasonable adjustment' to allow you to sit when necessary?

You have given us very little to go on, but here are a few suggestions. care work, looking after a disabled or elderly person in their own home, or providing respite care, to let a family with a disabled child to have a bit of time off. Driving work where you are dropping off a lot, so are alternating driving and delivering (e.g. courier work), working in a library or housing office where you are alternating between a desk and moving between shelves and private rooms, estate agency work showing people round homes. Lot of options really.
  • As I am only able to stand for short time and can only sit for short time.

So what are you doing the rest of the time? lying down or switching between the two?

    What about a bed tester?

I have problems with my back, neck, arms and hands. At work I alternate between standing and sitting. I can stand for approx 30 min then have to sit down. I can only sit for about 30 min before it gets painful then I have to stand again. I cannot lift my arms above my head and I have problems with lifting, bending and kneeling. :( I can however walk for about an hour before I need to sit down.
Will take a look at the "up your income" board....thanks
