I got accepted into University directly for a full time course as a mature student. It was through clearing though.0

A lot of Universities allow you to apply directly to them and then you complete the UCAS application when you go in person on enrolment day.
My University does this, hence why I know.

Not sure how easy it is to go through clearing without already being registered on the UCAS system
Or that you can just turn up at enrolment and sign up. If you want to get on a popular course this method won't work as the courses are oversubscribed so they effectively have a large waiting list anyway.
Although the costs are going to put some people off for 2012 I think the figure for those that didn't get a place last year was 140K so places will still be difficult to get.
Also, don't forget you need to sort out your finance and student loans etc well in advance. Bursaries and scholarships tend to get assigned from early in the year so you need to apply early. Quite easy. Lots of students go through clearing when they've had a last minute change of plans, particularly if they have better grades than expected.0 -

But most students that go through clearing are registered with UCASThere are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.0 -
It happened like this; I was not previously registered with UCAS, I rang the University during clearing and went in for an interview, they accepted me. I enrolled. At no point were UCAS involved in the process. I wa 24 at the time.0

It might be different this year but last year my two local universities were only able to offer a handful of places through clearing last year and all those places were gone by 9.15 am.
I suppose if you are a mature student and are only able to go to one university it might be worth speaking to them and saying you are not considering other universities but I would still do this sooner rather than later as they will be assigning the available spaces very soon. If you come from a widening participation background it might be worth mentioning this now too as this is part of the agenda for 2012, will make you more attractive to them if their stats don't look good later on.There are three types of people in this world. With Clearing, you can either apply through UCAS and have the choice of any uni in the Clearing list, or you can call unis and see if they will accept you directly. Not all will, so that way may limit your options. They then fill in an RPA (Record of Prior Acceptance) and send it to UCASMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

I *think* this is what happened. It was 7 years ago now so my memory is not fresh. Thanks for clearing it up
