  • Wrong board for this question.
You need to ask it on the Student Money Saving board.
Im sure someone will come along and move it for you :)
  • Worth him ringing the uni direct to ask.

When I was applying I rang the uni and they were happy to take my application direct. Saved me having to pay a fee to UCAS

    Go back to Uni?

Do you mean to start a new course or to carry on a course that he dropped out of?

If it's the former then tell him to do what he did the first time, if it's the latter then it depends on what happened when he dropped out of the course.

Either way he should have the intelligence to enquire with the Uni that he wants to learn at.:rotfl:

  • If you want to go to university this year the UCAS application has to be in by Jan 15th. (tomorrow) Unless it is a change of course within the same university I don't believe you can bypass the UCAS system, even if you are a mature student or coming from a non-school route. If you intend to do it by tomorrow you will need a good personal statement and references sorted out. The form is quite complex but there is a lot of help on the UCAS website.

Although January 15 is a deadline, applications are accepted after that date although some courses will be full.

Although the OP's husband will have to go through UCAS, it could be worth his while ringing the university first to ensure that there are places still available.

Call the Admissions Office and ask. That's the only way you will know about the particular uni you want to go to.
  • I studied at university as a mature student and didn't go through UCAS. I just rang the university concerned and was sent an application form through the post.

I did that as well but it was quite late in the summer and I had to go through UCCA (pre UCAS) afterwards even though I'd been offered a definite place. I don't think that would happen this early in the process.

I think I applied about May, if I remember correctly. This was eight years ago and for a part time course, but I didn't have to go through UCAS. This was at Liverpool Hope and the course was quite popular (they ran three classes in different areas - one at Hope and the other two were outreach).

TBH, I didn't even think of UCAS at the time.

That explains it - you don't apply through UCAS for part time courses.
