Best areas to buy in Bristol

St Werburghs in an inner city area so schools will be very multicultural. That could be a good or bad thing depending on your point of view. I do know that my friends who had kids in St Werburghs moved to Horfield as soon as they could.
I would seriously check out Fishponds/Downend/Staple Hill - there are some lovely period properties and plenty of open spaces and parks for the kids to play in.
Casualwalks, I live in Eastville so not too far from you!0 -
I suppose it really comes down to the life you want OP. Whethere city living is for you (with all its ups and downs) or whether the burbs may suit your family a bit better. Downend if very leafy and the houses are big.
Horfield may also be worth considering, but watch out for Upper Horfield, which is really Lockleaze or Filton (not that those area are terrible my other half grew up in Lockleaze) but they aren't really Horfield and have different school catchments. A friend of mine is in Upper Horfiled and is trying to buy in Bishopston before her daughter is school age because schools in her current catchment are a bit dire.
So much to think about when you have little 'uns.0 -
A lot of St Werburghs children go to Sefton Park which is an outstanding school (according to Ofsted!) and probably not as multicultural/slightly more middle class than you would expect.0

Downend is nice and you can get a 3 bedroomed semi-detached for under £250,000. I am putting mine on the market next year!
Downend is "nice" in a safe, semi-detached suburbia sort of way. Good place to bring up a family. Schools are good and motorway access is brilliant for Newport. There is also the M32 for working in Bristol citycentre.
PS As long as the link works, here is a selection of 3 bedroomed Downend houses for under £250,000...

If you are looking for NW have you thought about the outskirts like Yate? It is a bit of a way out but there is a train station and buses into Bristol regularly.
I know someone mentioned Stockwood/Whitchurch area - you need to be careful which road/area you are looking at in this area - not all of it is safe/desirable and I wouldn't say it is a good place for kids now.
I agree with the comments about the outskirts- there are some lovely villages like Frampton Cotterell, Iron Acton, Winterborne, and Coalpit Health. However I have worked in Yate before and would definately not want to live there! I agree with the good transport links part but if this is important I would choose a bit closer to Bristol.
When I bought my house in Bristol I used google maps and searches on different areas to work out the best place to buy. I was very happy with my choice.
Good luck with your search OP!0 -
Frenchay's supposed to be OK, unsure of house prices there, but it has good links to the centre of Bristol, and is at the Motorway end of the ringroad. Bradley Stoke is also the right area for both Bristol and Newport, but it's full of new estates that may not be to your liking.

Yate's alright at the Chipping Sodbury end IMO. We worked in Filton though and it was a s*d to get to and from in rush hour. Could take over an hour to do about 10 miles.Make £2025 in 2025

I realise you are joking, but I walk through St Pauls on my way home from work, and it is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. It has much safer feel now than it did.
If I had spare money I would buy an investment property in St Paul's in a heart beat, there are some huge Georgian buildings and St Paul's is 5 minutes from the newly developed Broadmead (centre) it won't take long for the area to become really sought after. Just look at Montpelier, 20 years ago most wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole. A friend of mine bought her 4 bed house in Montpelier for £130,000 in 1997, its now worth £600,000.0 -
I bought my first place last October in Greenbank/Easton and I absolutely love it here. It's got a lovely community feel and it's very friendly. Excellent transport links and good local shops. Highly recommended!0
