How long do i get to change my mind

On December the 31st I switched from EDF to Scottish Power - Online Energy Saver 17 Dual fuel. I have had no written correspondence or e-mail confirmation of the switch.

I have just done another quick comparison and Scottish Power are now offering a new fixed tariff called Online Fixed Price Energy May 2013 which is £25 a year cheaper and covers the same period of time. Can I ring up Scottish Power and ask them to be switched to this newer tariff without any cancellation charge. If not where do I stand?

When you say you "switched from EDF to Scottish Power on 31 December", *exactly* what process did you follow on that date?

The "cooling-off" period lasts 7 working days from the receipt of "hard copy" contract confirmation. Some suppliers "gross-up" the number of days to allow for non-working days. If you have not received any "hard copy" contract information then IMO the "cooling-off" period has not yet started.

However there is the potential for a wrangle if Scottish Power insist "hard copy" was sent and you insist it was not received. Before you go any further you need to establish Scottish Power's view on where the process sits and if necessary address the alleged non-receipt of the contract confirmation.

All I have done so far is applied online. I have received no e-mail confirmation and no hard copy through the post yet.

Did you use a comparison website to initiate the switch or did you apply directly to Scottish Power?
