Dual Fuel by Monthly Bill

Call me old-fashioned, but this is how I like to pay my gas/electric bill:

Receive a monthly bill (paper or online), check the meters, note the readings, let the utilities know the readings, settle up via debit card.

I don't want to pay by direct debit because I've had problems in the past with companies refusing to change the amounts resulting in me owing lots or them owing me lots because they so rarely read the meters these days.

Can anyone recommend who's offering this kind of deal (apart from Eon my current provider)? :)

  • I'm afraid the cheapest energy tariffs usually insist you pay by monthly fixed/variable direct debit. However you could always do what i do: after your bill is produced (by actual readings) if you find you're in debt just pay by your debit card online to bring youir balance to zero and the energy company won't have a reason to increase your DD :)
  • British Gas standard option allows payment by all types, and if you take the "Energy Smart" add-on you get monthly bills from your monthly readings... so it's easier to keep track of your usage.
