Im in the process of switching suppliers, after a long list of mistakes by Eon I finally decided to switch after they wanted to double my DD even tho I was well in credit. Any way today A lady from Eon rang me to check I did want to switch and asked if I was aware that I have a complex meter?
well no I didnt and dont know what one is and as the lady from Eon couldnt tell me what this is or what it means i still have no idea.
Does anyone know what a complex meter is and what it means for me and does it have any effect on me switching suppliers please.

I think the only problems with switching would be if you are on economy 10 / total control heating etc. The majority of suppliers do not support this.0

No not on any of those as far as i know, was just interested to know what a complex meter is as the lady from Eon had no idea.0

Probably a RHT tariff (Restricted Hour Tariff). see:

Thanks, that seems to apply to all electric properties though, I have gas and electric.0

We have Gas & Electric too, but still have a legacy Economy 7 meter with a big timeswitch in a glass case next to it! (I'm guessing the house used to have at least one storage heater as there is an old-style socket in the living room.)
There is a new digital meter which must have been installed well after the storage heating had gone, but because of this legacy arrangement it cycles through three readings: A night rate (1), daytime rate (2) and a total figure. We were told by Powergen (now EON) when we moved in that the day & night figures had to be quoted, even though we are on standard tariffs. On the bill the readings are just added together and charged at the same rate.
Having decoded our MPAN we are clearly down as an Economy Seven supply. I have no idea whether this would cause us problems if we tried to switch to someone else, but it clearly isn't a problem for EON who allow us to use any tariff we want. The only hassle is having to enter two readings every three months.....
Does anyone know if we wanted to move supplier whether they would force us to pay for a replacement meter install? I am assuming that when they eventually come around to give us a smart meter we could ask them to rip out the economy 7 at that time for free?0 -

Not so.
It would have been originally an all electric property, but many have had gas installed and retained that metering arrangement.0 -
Thanks, this is a fairly new property. Aprox 10 years and had gas installed from the start.0

Maybe call E.ON back and ask them to clarify?0

I would "set a trap" for E.ON by asking them to explain *exactly* what they mean by "complex meter". Also asking for a quote for the replacement of the "complex meter" by a single rate meter.
TBH, if you are the property owner and now have gas installed it may well be worth biting the bullet and getting it done.
I'm interested that you were called by E.ON. I assume that must have ocurred when they were notified of the switch at the expiry of the "cooling-off" period, at which point it is too late to cancel (but not too late to fail due to metering issues). IMO that makes the contact almost a "retention" attempt (at your cost in possible Early Termination Charges). In the circumstances conducted less than "honestly".0 -
Thanks. thats interesting, Gas has been installed since property was built. I dont own the property is housing assosiation.
Will ring Eon back and get them to explain.0
