New to this, should i get a credit card?

Hi all, i'll be looking for a mortgage next year around september 2013, however i have had problems with my credit before, some late payments etc, i have checked my credit report which says good (927 if this means anything to anyone?) according to experian. I have never had a credit card though and the ones experian say i am likely to be accepted for are like 39% apr, but i was thinking to get one and just spend very little on this to aid my chance of getting a good mortgage next year.
What is everyone's views on this i know you will all have far better ideas than me, thanks Danny

Ask your bank first...the one that receives your salary. If they say no then your only option is a credit builder card...and they charge circa 34.9% APR (or more!).

hopefully you won't care about the APR because you will pay in full each month and so you will not be charged interest

best to use it every month for things you anyway buy (maybe petrol or shopping) and pay in full and on time: this will show you as a responsible person with credit

best to set up a DD for the full amount so you don't forget and damage your credit rating

You know this number; Experian knows this number; now even we know this number. A credit provider would never be told, so in that sense it's worthless.

Yes it would, Cap One classic is probably the lowest interest subprime which almost anyone will get
