Regulation EC261/2004 says they have to offer you alternative flights if your flights have been cancelled.

  • Icelandair gen do a 3 night northern light package, inc excursion and hotel for about £299 pp if that helps. Did it in Dec and saw the northern lights.
Reyjkavik is about 40 mins from airport, not 2 hours , not that that helps much with these flight times. Airport transfer buses run to Reykavik after each incoming flight, so yes there should still ba a transfer even at that time.
  • Thanks for all your suggestions. I've not heard anything back from my email so I've posted a comment on their Facebook page so will wait and see, though it seems like as they've offered me a full refund and alternative flights... (even if they will cost me extra money and are not at a convenient time), they are operating within the law and I can't do anything about it other than put up with it, pay extra or cancel my trip. I'm just surprised that they can do this and hope others think twice before booking with them, because a quick search of the internet brings up lots of other people with similar complaints. I certainly won't be using them again! Thanks Spidercat - at least the transfers will be operating, but I think it will take longer than 40 mins for us to get to our hotel as the bus only takes you to the terminal and then we will need to get a taxi or something to our hotel.

Is there any difference in flight numbers, or is it just the flight times that have changed?

  • The main airport bus takes you to the main terminal, then they have a series of little minibuses to the hotels which are there and waiting, very efficient. we were at our hotel within about 10 mins of arriving at the bus terminal. Everybody in iceland is incredibly helpful and want you to have a great time, we tested the tourist office to the limit and couldn't phase them!
