  • Hi,

I am an amatuer photographer and i wondered where abouts you live? I live in Stoke and if you are within 10 miles and you would be interested i would be willing to take photographs for you. I would only charge for travel and i would offer a CD of the prints with copyright, i would just ask in return that you allow me to use your photographs for my portfolio and on a facebook page that i am in the process of building.

I am a very professional person and i have worked with all ages of people. If you have any children in your wedding party i have done professional photographs of children and babies.

I would make myself available for the whole day, from getting ready to the first dance.

If you are interested feel free to email me on:

    Thanks Sarah

Hi at the end of the day you can get married on a shoe string or you can splash out extortionate amounts of money. The important thing is the 'I do/I will'. As long as that happens then all the rest can be as much or as little as you like. It all depends on what your priorities are.

E.g. if it's more important to have a large group celebrating with you, you can cut costs down by not having invites - email/facebook/phone/text people. Only you know whether that would be okay for you and your guests. There is no need to have flowers. You don't have to have a photographer - get a friend to take photos for you. Transport - drive yourself/get a relative to drive you in their car - who said a bride has to arrive in a big poncy car? If I could I would be driving myself in our plain black 206. (But I'm not sure I could fit in the front with my dress). Self catering can be done very cheaply. I'm doing ours for around £2.50 per person but I'm not buying the cheapest cuts of meat etc (think it's less than £3 per person including posh paper plates/cutlery etc). If having so many page boys and bridesmaids are important to you - do they have to all be wearing the same things? Could you ask their parents to buy their outfits/wear their best party clothes they already own? Rings - you don't have to have them on the day. You could wait till your first year anniversary to buy some if you wanted them.

It really is all about what is important to you. A wedding is how much you want to spend on it and where you are happy to cut corners.

Ham & Tomatoes Sandwiches (Cut costs - use cheaper meat/thinner bread)
    Turkey & Salad Sandwiches
    Tuna mayo & cucumber sandwiches
    Cheese & Pickle sandwiches
Coleslaw (Cut costs - make your own)
Potato salad (Cut costs - make your own)
Couscous salad (Cut costs - make your own)
    Pork pie
    Party sausage rolls
    Vegetable spring rolls
    Cocktail sausages
    Chicken nuggets

Just normal boring buffet food really. It'll all be served cold. Just checked my figures - comes to around £3.50 per person (including plates/cutlery/glasses etc).

  • I can recommend my photographer. She is new to it, but I was blown away by her photos. I got married last August and at the time all she charged us was £30 for her petrol cost (to get to the venue) as she was just honoured to be doing her 1st wedding and wanted the experience.

She arrived at mine at 11:30am to be ready to take shots as everyone got ready and she didn't leave until 5pm. My dad was so impressed with her he actually gave her £50. As you live in Nottingham that is why I am commenting as I live in Newark.

Her name is Deb Hauser photography, you'll find her on facebook, that is how I found her, she was recommended to me.

I had 3 people taking photos, I even had an established company of 2 years who gave me 1.5 hrs of photography for copyright to use our photos on their business website. They were the worst photos ever and I am sooo glad I just didn't have them as I'd have no nice memories of my day.

If you find her page on facebook, she does have a mini album of some of the shots from my wedding.

Oh and we also did a buffet and got married in a village pub. Our whole day which includes registrar fees and thank you cards and gifts etc came to £2,700.

  • nottingham is brilliant you have two universities and thousands of students

    photography students
catering students for food and cake
design students to make ur OHs suit for fabric costs
    floristry student for flowers

car clubs perfect for getting transport on the cheap

if you want servers at the reception then hospitality students
hair and beauty students for hair and beauty

just lots and lots of students
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5
  • Hi there
My sister did a fantastic wedding on a budget in November last year. A big saver was her wedding dress which she got off ebay. It's £50, it took a couple of weeks for delivery because it came from China but it was newly made. It looked really nice on her. I don't think if she spent thousands on a dress, she would have looked anymore pretty! :)
