Very tight Budget/ MSE weddings

Ok so im planning our wedding:j
Im currently 7 months pregnant and we are looking to tieing the knot 3rd of nov 2012.

Ive got some rough ideas but need some tips/ideas on what others have done or are doing for theirs.

we will get married at a registry office

Need to think about photographer on a budget

transport

Can i afford to have brother n sisters as page boys and bridesmaids as well as my own 2 boys. 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

suites

visit function room at a local bar which has 4 function rooms, the one im interested in is £120 and i can self cater at a charge of £25

What food to serve- needs to be hot as will be november so thinking chilli/curry/jacket spuds along with the normal chicken platters from iceland sandwhiches etc, will need to buy chafing dishes. Any ideas on what you expect to eat at a winter wedding buffet style/bonfire night theme?

Dj- oh knows a couple of djs so hopefully we will get a good price

wedding dress and all my things- already bought.

what are your ideas and how much has your wedding come too? im hoping to only spend around £500 hopefully for 70+ people to attend evening do and 35 for the wedding.:)

need inspiration

Need to think about photographer on a budget you could try local university's and see if anyone is able to cover it for their portfolio, obviously do consider the downside this also - won't be as professional etc but could be real bargain if it works out (or of course a real let down....)

Does the £500 have to include the registrar fees as if so I think it will be quite tight as that would just leave around £200 to cover the extras invites, food etc.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

yes it does, but i really want to try and cut corners big time as we are saving for a house and our ds2 will be around 8 months old, the room is lovely and does not need decorating as its very stylish so all id want is balloons but not alot.

registry office is just over £50

as for invites i have found these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50-x-HEARTS-BUTTERFLIES-PERSONALISED-HANDCRAFTED-WEDDING-INVITATIONS-DAY-EVE-/270889141563?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Celebrations_Occasions_ET&hash=item3f1240453b

Don't forget the other fees though: to give notice costs £33.50, to register the wedding is £40.00, certificate £3.50,

You could always make the invites, order of day, seating plan etc yourself. You could also make table centre pieces etc to decorate the venue yourself.

Balloons are a really good way to add colour to a room cheaply, and if you get the gas canisters at Asda for around £15, they fill 25-30 balloons and are really easy to use.

  • yes our notice has already been given sorry forgot to add that lol the £50+ includes the certificate of marriage x

hi, congratulations! I think you will really struggle to get wedding done for £500, especially if you are looking at a room which costs £145 plus the registrars. Don't forget you need to give your notice of marriage too which is almost £40 each. So already half your Berger has gone, allowing £2.50 each to feed guests, no photography or extras. If I have misunderstood the figures then sorry!

its also not going to be formal more like a good party to celebrate so no seating plan or top table as its at a stylish bar and thier is a really fancy ong sofa its gorgeous with a good sized dancefloor so will dot balloons on every other table x

so its £55 including certificate of marriage
    £145 for the venue
Food will budget £100 as have costco card
Cake-mother in law is asking friend who owns bakery to make one as a wedding present
dress/tiara/shoes etc already purchased a year ago
Dj- been told to throw him £80 as a close friend of fiance
    £380 spent already spent.
its all the little bits i need to look at if it comes upto £600 thats fine but really want to do it on as little as possible as getting married is more important to us than forking out £1000's to pay for a wedding that we just cant afford as well as wanting to buy a property.

  • Here are a few costs: ( im getting married in april this year and have been trying to keep a tight budget)

    room at registary office £100
cost of declaring marriage (£37.5 each - £70 total)
cars (free, we are using mine and parents cars)
rings (cheapest i have got is £460 which is a palladium ring for me and a platinum ring for her) from a great place online (pm for details)
so just for that its £170 for just the room / registartion of marriage + rings = £630 :(

Food can be done quite cheaply if your prepared to do the leg work, TBH it might be worth getting a few nice friends to do it for you as the last thing you want to be doing on your day is worrying about organising the food!

We are getting a wedding photographer for £80. VERY cheap but his work is great. Look for students / people who are trying ot get in to wedding photography. they will give you amazing deals as long as you let them use a few photos for their portfolio ;)

cheapest we have got a DJ is £170, most where asking £250+ (and its only a thursday evening!) _ you might be wise to get a few speakers and a good amp, and hook up an MP3 player with a track list on it .. this will save you bundles of cash and you will have music you like.

i think your biggest budget killer is - rings, food, photographer and possibly DJ.. even if you ignore ring cost the remaining three will blow your £500 budget easy :(

    Hi, firstly congraluations.

Ok these are my thoughts to your post:
Judging by your budget you cant afford all the bridesmaids and pages boys (your budget is so small, that these extra costs will take away a huge chunk, even if you manage to find bargain outfits it would still have a huge effect on your budget)

Do they have the facilities for keeping hot food hot? You say theres 4 functions room so would you definately have access to a kitchen? things like chilli can be done fairly cheap- but will you have someone to warm it all up, keep an eye on it all etc? Things like sandwiches you can do fairly cheap. Have you included things like napkins, platters, knife and forks etc in your budget? I would do a list of exactly what you want to serve and would work out rough quantities of what you would need then I would go to costco and see if your food budget it doable.

    What time is your wedding?
Have you thought about the grooms outfit? Your 2 sons page boys outfit?
Invites could be made fairly cheapily, or you could get them from ebay for a good price?
WIll you be wanting any flowers?
Have you budgeted for dress alterations?
    Rings?

Im just trying to think of all the little things that may be missed out but will soon sort putting costs up.
