We are meant to complete on our house sale/purchase on Monday and we exchanged today. I went to the bank at lunch time to transfer the money for the legal costs, stamp tax and estate agency fees. I asked the bank how I transfer the money and they said I could do it online. Unfortunately every time I try to transfer money online it says there is a technical problem. I explained this and she said I could take the money out there atLlloyds and pay it in down the road at Barcalys (where solicitors account is held.) I went and paid the money in and she asked if it was for a property and I said yes, so she said she would put a Ref of the house address and my surname.
When I get home from work my husband said the solicitor phoned him asking if I had paid the money in, in cash. My husband didn't know, but I said I was going to the bank to 'transfer' the money to him. So he said he thinks I sent the money via BACS. The solicitor said there is no way to tell who the money has come from, so she suggested we print screen our bank account statement to say we sent the money and email it to her. It is now too late to phone as it is after office hours.
I have the receipt to say that I withdrawn the money and another to say that I paid the money. Will this make any difference or does it have to be a BACS transfer?
Do you think I should BACS the amount to her again and ask her to refund the other money on Monday?

Please don't panic. The cash deposit will not have shown on the sols online banking by close of business today, although their phone call suggest that it has. They will be able to see it first thing on Monday morning. It feels like depositing cash should be instantaneous but it often isn't.
Just do the print-screen thing as you mentioned.0 -
I know this doesn't help but.... why on earth did you leave the money transfer so late and why on earth had you not already discussed with the bank(s) involved the various methods of accomplishing this. You must have known at least a week (month? ago that this day would come!
Having said that, I'm sure if you show the solicitor your cash deposit receipt - by going in to the office on Monday if necessary (another argument for using local rather than online solicitors), all will be resolved.0 -

I assumed the solicitor would tell me when she needed me to send the money. She only told me today and gave me the details of where to send it to today. I told both banks what I was doing and the first one suggested I take the money out and pay it in, in cash. The second bank said is it for a property and I said yes and she said that's fine she will put my house address as a Ref. No one said it had to be BACS at any point, so I didn't know.:( I feel like an idiot.
Thank you for your reply. I have a receipt for both transactions so I will try sending that via email. I just hope she will accept this so I haven't messed everything up!M May11 55886.810
