I'd opt for oiled over lacquered. I did see the most beautiful, oiled engineered flooring that was about £25 with a really good sanding layer being sold by a company based in Shrewsbuy, I think. I can't remember the Name of the company, will need to google again but their USP was that they had a special floor sanding machine that keeps all the dust down by means of a special vacuum. You can leave your curtains hanging in the room etc.

Howdens do a nice rustic solid oak floor which has some, but not too many knots. My preference, having lived with both, is engineered as it genuinely doesn't shift about as much. I think that was lacquered but it didn't give me too much hassle.

Absolutely no stiletto heels in the house though! You'll want to weep when you see those tell tale punch marks :( You'll never avoid it with a real wood floor unless you get people to take their shoes off.

    Maybe it's https://www.shireoak.com

If they did the homebuilding and renovating show, it must be them. They were incredibly knowledgeable and I thought the flooring was stunning. Well priced for what it was. The H&R show has lots of independent companies doing special deals, if you can wait for spring.
