De-Icer - Can You Make Your Own ?

I bought a spray bottle of de-icer in Tesco's today for £1.47 - does anyone know if there's a "recipe" to make your own?

    Scrape it off?
I think it's mainly solvent anyway.

    WD40 and a match.

Removes ice faster than de-icer,but may set fire to your windscreen rubber.

    Sorry.Couldn't resist.

Warm water (not hot might crack the screen) only works if it is not still freezing.

Put something over the screen the night before,.

Start car earlier and allow to de-ice itself (not very environmentaly friendly)

    I never use de-icer.

De-icers as other posters have said is a waste of time and money especially the aerosol ones(these also contain cfc's). In my experience they don't work as the second you get back into the car the inside mists up and you have to sit for ages waiting for it to clear. Better to invest some money in a decent ice scaper. My car has been iced up the last few mornings and in this order I avoid the inside misting up.
    1. Start up the engine and get the blowers and rear de-mister on at maximum
    2. Get the ice scraper going and do the side windows first. This gives the blowers a chance to warm up and work on the windscreen. Scrape the windscreen and lastly the rear window.
    3. You should now be able to drive away and see clearly.
    4. At all costs avoid wiping the inside of the windscreen with your hand. All this does is leave a film of grease on the glass.

CFC's .... used in de-icers. I take it wherever you bought it from must have bought a job lot 15 years ago and are still trying to get it shifted! either that or you are mistaken.
