I find stuff like this fascinating. Don't know why, I don't know him from Adam but I do find it interesting nonetheless.
Equally of course I find it interesting to know your situation RM and have said so. And you said you thought it was interesting/appropriate too. But now you've jumped on a chance to do a "No, you are" back at Derv due to his apparent guilt of what he pulls you up for, rather than engaging in conversation about it.
More's the pity.
Not sure of my point. And I'm more than aware that a cheap "point score" is sometimes satisfying, but I thought the possible conversation here could have been a bigger win.
Derv is no geneer in that he does actually engage and answer questions etc.
Ah I'm just rambling now...
<bumbles off>
I think you make a very good point, and it kind of gets to the heart of what goes on around here. I am willing to discuss my personal financial details, to a point. No doubt that if I do mention how much I have in my ISA account (which I would probably do on another section of this forum), I'd be accused of bragging. There's a time and a place to do such things. My issue with RM started when he posted a reply to something I posted which was blatantly untrue. It took ages to get him to understand what he'd got wrong. I then noticed that he seemed to repeatedly make posts telling us his financial "plan". Fair enough, especially in context, but it seems that he was indeed bragging. Then came accusations that I was a sockie for another forum member, and that I was "stalking" him. He got a bit dramatic for a short while. Nowadays he tries to turn my accusations about him onto me, and certainly isn't afraid to go "on the attack" once in a while (which is much more entertaining). It is very clear that I tend to keep quiet about my financial situation. I dare say that I may have more wealth than some forum members, and certainly a lot less than many others. I don't need to say that I don't like people who "brag", and anyone, apart from RM, will probably agree that it is something that I don't do.
So, yes, it is interesting to sometimes hear about other people's situations, and how they got to where they are, but we don't need to hear it time and time again, or in the manner that some forum members deliver it.
BTW. I'll destroy RM's accusation about me not responding to homelessskilledworker's "brag" about his £77k, by saying that I believe this is the first time that hsw has mentioned this, and I dare say it won't get mentioned again very often. He certainly won't put it in his signature, I wouldn't have thought.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

Jeeze, what a boring and rambling post! Do you really believe people care about why we don't get on? Truly bonkers.:rotfl:
The other stuff is interesting in as much as the only person on here who routinely accuses anyone of 'bragging' is yourself. Before you started doing it we were allowed to discuss anything financial without too much fuss. Fair enough we might have had some scepticism (I myself was questioned about my large overpayments, and everyone is questioning whether geneer really went back in time to 2009 to buy a house) but never all the spite you throw around.
You're a joke DervProf. You stated that you ONLY came in here so that you can have arguments. Well I've brought it to your door after months of just putting up with you and you hate it. You're another who likes to dish it out and not take it. You keep flouncing off and now you're resorting to 'throwing yourself on the mercy of the board' by trying to tell them why we argue. You loved it when I was just trying to post on here and avoid you. Like any bully you truly hate it when people stand up to you. You're a coward.0 -
homelessskilledworker wrote: »My £77k is sat there in savings and investments and not in property market.
I read posts like yours RM(along with family and friends) and I would feel gutted if and when we get a inevitable fall in property prices.
As for people like Wotsthat and joe(thingy) I am going to mtake great delight in their pain:)
You have 77k now? That's interesting because just a few months ago you couldn't afford a deposit.homelessskilledworker wrote: »I am quite happy with allowing market forces to dictate the haves and have nots in our society, with of course a little protection for true weaker members of society.
But how many people in the UK are living in better homes than those that have decent paid jobs. How many immigrants who have not been here more than 5 minutes, how many playing the system welfare scroungers, how many of those heavily in debt, personal and mortgage are being kept in property that should have been repossessed long ago.
I have friends who are highly skilled in many fields, a few who went to uni, some have highly responsible jobs where few could handle the pressure that they do. Apart from a few that are lucky enough to have extremley wealthy parents, none of us are able to buy property.

I'm always interested in other forum member's finances, dreams and goals, it's what I joined MSE for in the first place. I've picked up loads of info from the pensions and investment board and a lot of support from the MFW board. It's interesting to see if people are doing the same things as you are or if, why not? Often it's just good to see people having a goal and achieving it.
Contrast this with DervProfs stated (many times) reason for coming to MSE. By his own admission he comes here to have a row with people. He never visits any board outside this one and he never offers advice or help. He just spouts bitterness and latches onto any arguments to try and get involved. What is the point in trying to have any sort of sensible financial discussion with someone like this? I tried once until I realised that his sole purpose was to be a wind up merchant. I now play him at his own game and he really doesn't like it.
My whole "you are" at DervProf was a result of my astonishment at his statement of wealth. After complaining bitterly at me for over 12 months for daring to answer questions about my signature and for daring to mention my financial goals and dreams, he now comes on with a huge brag about his own wealth and totally out of context. The hypocricy was breathtaking!:eek:0 -

You seem to think that you know everything about me, and what I'm thinking. And yet, your sweeping statements repeatedly prove you don't. You really think I don't like you "playing my game" ? :rotfl:RenovationMan wrote: »he now comes on with a huge brag about his own wealth and totally out of context.
Hardly a huge brag and even if I were bragging, as you say....RenovationMan wrote: »your wealth was pretty ordinary for a single, childless 45 year old.
And as far as your ridiculous statement.....RenovationMan wrote: »you couldn't wait to tell everyone just how much money you had.
:rotfl:
Yeah, right. How long have we been "locking horns" on this forum ?
And "out of context" ?RenovationMan wrote: »I'm always amazed when I see that the total household debt INCLUDING MORTGAGE is only £55,816. It's so low.
My own total household debt is currently £250k including mortgage.
You stated your debt situation (on a forum thread titled "UK Debt Crisis"), I stated mine. Well, I admit I didn't spell out that I have very little debt, but I think any interested reader (such as JonnyBravo) could see that I have very little debt, which is a choice a made a long while ago. I wanted to be mortgage free as soon as possible, and I have pretty well achieved that aim. Another brag ? It's a thread about debt, and another forum member has said he's interested. Unlike yourself, I won't keep repeating this, as I assume that most people aren't that interested in my situation, and if i do keep repeating it, it will look like I'm boasting (even though I haven't much to boast about).30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Yawn. A multi-post bore-fest worthy of the great geneer. No wonder I thought you and he were one and the same. Like yourself, he also only comes here in order to take part in internet arguments, glories in his self-confessed 'wins' and 'destroys' his opponents. Though what you don't realise is that no one cares, not even the person you argue with.
You're an annoying mosquito and I'm bored now. I'm off to locate some reclaimed oak boards and research breatheable wall insulation via google. Enjoy wasting your life with pointless internet arguments, it's all you have isn't it.0 -

Sounds, erm, "interesting".
BTW. It takes two to take part in "pointless internet arguments". You are clearly above all of that.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0
