Best way to avoid debts

What are the best ways to avoid debts in the first place? Many people here have the odd £5000 loan for a car or holiday or something like that is this debt avoidable or will it just come up in day to day living?

I am not sure if it is good or bad debt.

I do not like the idea of having to pay £ 60 a month back out of my income a month to pay it back. In a way I will not really be able to afford to loose that a month out of my income.
