It's different for everyone Phil! You take into account how much money you have left over/save each month and work it from there!

Do you have debt concerns or is this just an excuse to spread your wings and start threads in other boards?

    Right, affordable still seems unclear.

I do not debt concerns other than my student loans.

You have no objection to a preventative thread do you?

    Behave yourself! :p

Affordable depends on the individual Phil. £1,000 might be affordable to some but not to others! There is no hard and fast rule except you either have the money or you don't.

There seems no harm in thinking about avoiding debt as far as I know.

Affordable could be that you can afford the repayments for the 5 years providing interest rates do not go up on a var rate loan. Or affordable could only be if you can afford to pay it off much earlier.

Affordable has tons of meanings you see!

None at all - but on the whole the people on this board are people who are or have been in debt and want to get out of it. A preventative thread on here is like bolting the stable door once the horse has bolted to a certain extent (:o ). I think this would have been better in discussion time.

I would just add to that, once a person is debt free staying that way is important.

To fear debt and to avoid debt are not the same.

I am old enough to have student debt so I think I am up to thinking about debt.

So is that good debt or bad debt Phillip? And can you afford it? And how do you know you can afford it?
