Advice please!

Somebody ran into the back of my car this week. I was stationary waiting to pull out onto a roundabout and they just ran into the back of me.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, I don't want to claim through my insurance company and then them get it back from the other persons insurance, as I do not want to get a black mark against my policy. This happened to my husband years ago when someone ran into him and although it was a no fault claim on his part, he still had to declare that he had made a claim when getting renewal quotes, which obviously had an impact on the premiums.

I was advised to use the legal protection and get solicitors to claim direct from the third party's insurance company on my behalf. Takes longer, but doesn't reflect on my policy at all. Have been told I will need to get two estimates, which sounds a bit excessive really. I just took my car to the local main dealer to get a quote and thought this would suffice.

This is all totally new to me, have never had to do this before.

Has anybody got any advice to offer? It is just so much hassle that I could do without - I know accidents happen but I was just sitting there minding my own business.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

  • My advice is to contact your insurance to let them know about the accident.
You pay insurance for just incidents like this.
If your insurance gets its money back from the other side's company then your premiums might not go up at renewal.
