Delivery and collection query please help!

Options
Hi,
I have been trying to find help with a problem, hope someone can assist me.
I purchased an item for a Christmas gift, when it arrived it was faulty and they duly sent a second. The original item needed to be sent back when their warehouse reopened in January. I arranged with the company for them to come and collect it and had the day off work. I requested an am collection but they said they would try but it was an all day 9-5 collection.
They never came. I contacted them straight away and was waiting for them to investigate when the following day the third party courier UK Mail tuned up unexpectedly to collect.
I have now complained about taking a wasted day off and tried to claim compensation. They have refused but me say they will contact trading standards to see where we both stand.

Any advice or info is much appreciated, thank you.

I dont intend this to sound harsh so please don't take it as such.

What consequential loss have you suffered?

On the first day, you arranged to take that day off work.
That was your choice. You chose to take the time of work.
It appears to me that if the courier had turned up on that day you would not be complaining.

You did not take further time off work, did you?
You just happened to be at home when the courier called the next day, right?

    You have lost nothing.

    Thank you for your replies.

I guess you are right, I haven't really suffered a consequential loss, just annoying when companies let you down when you have an agreement with them.
I would have arranged another day off if they had advised me when they were going to try again, but they didn't know themselves what had happened. Possible break down in communications between the retailer and the courier I suppose.

It was just chance that I was home when they tried to collect again.

    Thanks again

While you may not be entitled to anything, theres nothing to stop you asking (or them providing) a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience :)

  • Update:

The company concerned emailed me last week to say they would check with consumer direct to see what I could possibly be entitled to. Then yesterday they said its taking too long to get a response and have decided to refund me £20 as a goodwill gesture!

Very happy with this result. Thanks again for your comments.
