First of all apologies if this has been discussed before, I can't recall thread on it and I've been meaning t post this for a few days. It occurred to me the other day that there is a bit of a gap in the system in that when getting a comparison you aren't given the option to select you have an IGT supply.

Granted some customers aren't aware of this so wouldn't know whether to click it anyway but as comparisons give the option of selecting Economy 7 meters for electricity why isn't there a similar option for gas? It can lead to customers getting one set of rates only to be given another set later on.

This doesn't affect me personally as I am not on an IGT supply, but I have spoken to customers before who are impacted by it. Is there any comparison site anyone is aware of which DOES quote IGT rates? Its a bit of a pain for people who have an IGT supply to have to call the individual companies to obtain an accurate quote...

Any ideas or input? (I know IGT's aren't that common, but that doesn't make it right)

  • Out of all the major suppliers, NPower is the only one which charges for ALL IGT supplies, IGT charges are becoming less and less common.

That may be the case but some of the smaller suppliers won't offer the same tariffs for IGT supplied houses and this means that they are incorrectly placed at the top of the list of comparisons. First Utility are one of these suppliers and it makes the switching process more difficult.

The page you quote is incorrect. In fact IGT charges have become more, not less, common. EDF, for one, has started charging within the last couple of years or so. It's annoying for those of us it affects, but there's nothing we can do about it. When using comparison sites I just have to factor in the approximate charge - afaik there are no comparison sites which will take the charges into account.
