  • Yes we are in debit not credit. They estimate our usage for this year will be just over £1200, if we pay £187 they will get £2244, we currently are about £200 debit, so if I added £400 to the estimate making it £1600 a year we would pay £133 a month. If I offer £135 do you think they would accept?

You can ask that they dont increase it.

I was in credit though by nearl £300 so was a bit shocked that they wanted to do that mine was £77 to £169!

Did i read somewhere that the utility companies were estimating how much you use based on covering future use, as opposed to the usual being slightly behind in the winter and catching up in spring and summer

I roughly use £1000 gas and electric per year and they wanted £130 per month when the payment should be around the £85 mark monthly. Threaten to change companies, I did. Told them I couldn't afford the rise and that during the summer I would be £100's in credit but in their bank account. They get the interest not us,totally unfair. I said keep dd as it was or I would cancel so they got nothing and wait for the bill to come, pay that and then change to another company. They said that at this time they would keep me at my original DD and they have.
Summer I'm in credit, I know after winter I owe them but they get it back over the summer (its in their bank not mine) I have a credited ammount at the beginning of winter. Its all swings and roundabouts and they should give a little leway the profits they post. Gas and electric prices went down at the begining of December but its only now that we might get a little benefit from it as the big ones are now begining to reduce their prices.
Make sure you've got the best deal. Get an online deal mine worked out about £100 cheaper but why I have to go to them to get the best deal I'll never understand as its all the same grade gas and electric, all using the same network, all bought at the same price. They should let us know whats cheapest and not have all these different tarriffs.Or just have 1 price for all it would save all the hassle.
They bought it for this, they are selling it to you for this, END OF, EASY.
When E-on announces its reducing its prices I'll have to go online, again, to make sure I've got the best deal. Then phone to verify it and change it.MAD.......I've better things to do with my time
  • Eon initially charged me £88 pm, they then reduced it to £66, then 6 months later upped it to £123!!! We were in deficit of about £270 as we were using more than we were paying. We are now deficit £71 so slowly creeping back into credit! It was very hard having the price increase though

  • Why not just pay the bill as they come. no credit debit rubbish. You give them the meter readings every month. they give you a bill with that months use. simple! yes of course the bills will vary. but thats life.

Don worry, with DD you have the right to cancel at anytime, call them and tell them you want to pay the same, British gas increased mine to £195 a month up £80 and didnt bother to tell me I emailed them and basically told them keep it the same or I cancel, it returned down to the same as I was paying

but surely thats putting off the inevitible (sp)??

your DDs are not covering what you are using.

if you still wish to pay the same you need to cut back on baths/showers/heating/washing/tv etc etc???

by paying the same DD and using the same elec/gas you are going to end up with a hefty bill = not good :(

do they not give you a discount for paying my DD??

usually this is way more than you would earn in bank interest??

Don't you think it would be worth getting the accuracy of your meter checked? That's one heck of a jump!!!
Don't try to keep up with the Joneses - Drag them down to your level - it's cheaper . :p:D
