Resort Recommendations Please - Greece or Turkey

Hi all,

Doing a lot of research on different resorts and was hoping someone here might have a suggestion.

I'm looking for a resort in greece or turkey that has a lot going on, but not an 18 to 30 type place, somewhere normal travel operators go (so can book a package!) with a sandy beach and pretty things around to visit! we're late 20s so still like a drink but nothing mental anymore! i like a bit of history stuff, boyfriend like watersports and diving...both like good food!!

any suggestions welcome!! really enjoyed zante but we were in quite a quiet resort (kalamaki) and went to marmaris aswell but that was a bit english!!

thanks!!

We went to Kefalonia in Greece, that was really lovely. Rhodes is nice too. Also we went to Ayia Napa in Cyprus, we stayed right on the edge of the town so wasnt loud at all, and did a few trips up to the turkish border, saw some historic stuff etc.

Or even Northern Cyprus, great food, great prices (Not Euro zone), great historical sites (3 different castles within 10 minutes of Kyrenia),Virtually crime free, friendly locals and some fantastic beaches, No Chavs !
And yes there are package Holiday companies, just Google North Cyprus

But then I'm biased, I live here

Lindos, Rhodes. Nuff said. Enjoy. x

Edit: but it is often expensive to stay in Lindos, so stay up the road in Pefkos which is cheaper, still has a lovely beach and a good choice of bars and restaurants.
If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.
  • Kefalos in Kos, Tsilivi in Zante, Icmeler, Hisaronu or Ovacik in Turkey :)
    Getting there.. slowly but surely...
    Debt - Was £14,300, now £6,500..

    Keep soldiering on!! :D

I'll say this and you will instantly think 'no way' but seriously have a look at Faliraki in Rhodes. The hotels on the outskirts such as the Sun Palace and the Calypso are really great hotels and just away from the main streets of town. Faliraki is really not as imagined and does have a lot of bars on bar street and club street but the beaches around there are really nice and you have a great waterpark too. You are also well placed for Rhodes Town and it's not that far to Lindos, both of which are great for a day out. Then if you want to go mad of a night, walk into Faliraki and have some of the legendary fish bowl cocktails!
It really isn't an 18-30 destination anymore as such, of course they still go there but i guarantee that it will surprise you. They have done a lot over the past few years to clean up the resort and make it more family friendly. Have a look here http://www.faliraki.com/faq.htm
You can also do watersports on Faliraki beach and diving is also readily available. http://www.waterhoppers.com/index.php

  • I'd recommend you also check out Tigaki in Kos - something for everyone although its very quiet if you go out of season.

Been to a number of Greek islands and also round Turkey.

    Top of the list for us is Kas in Turkey, all these photos are of Kas;

    "Diving in Kas

Put the charm of the town aside, perhaps what makes Kas a one of a kind gem is world-famous diving. Many diving outfits are eager to introduce newbies and experienced divers alike to its world under the waterline. A great variety of sealife is just the beginning: some of the oldest submerged ruins in the Mediterranean can be found here, and the undersea visibility is top notch"

    .......................................

ME AGAIN >> Kas is an awesome place with restaurants being the best we've ever known, especially those up the hill as it were.

BUT, if you want sandy beach then Kalkan is the better option as it's next to Patara beach voted one of the worlds best. We've stayed in Kalkan, it's just want you want in terms of lively, but not a teens sort of place. Diving is good in both areas.

Here is Patara beach near Kalkan - no that is not me

Kalkan is pretty but not as cool and pretty as Kas. Kas is a little less English and has great old streets. Kalkan has nice winding streets too but they dont have such those in Kas. Kas is maybe too quiet for you though I think?

Kalkan has too many restaurants, it made choosing between them very tiring in fact. Still a great place though.

PS - we stayed in Kephalonia and did not like it at all (Lassi).
Of all the Greek islands we loved Paxos for intimate charm (boat ride to sand beach though)
Corfu is great but a bit tried and tested for us
Skiathos has a great sand beach but we didn't find the island that attractive or appealing - we like places with atmosphere
Rhodes - a bit bland for us we found

See last poster does not recommend Kefalonia. I would agree about Lassi but we stayed in Skala and thought it was fabulous. Lovely places to eat, not expensive and not rowdy. Car hire for a few days is a must to experience the different places and you should watch Captain Corelli's mandolin (with Nicholas Cage) before going!

    Cheers
