I got 40k of around town driving out of my last two sets of discs.

but, I have changed them each time I've changed the pads and done the lot. The discs for my car from a local parts supplier are like £25 for the pair, so it's not worth bothering about.

If in doubt change them. The braking system on any car is probably the most important along with the tyres afterall!
  • I will run the car for a bit longer as it doesn't really matter if I score the discs anyway. Approximate independent prices for changing the front discs and new pads all round (south east)?

    Yes..they are having you on..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Maybe this is why Honda have such good perceived reliability.
If all the regular servicing throws up a grands worth of work, it's no wonder they never need anything between services.

Discs used to last forever with asbestos pads, But thats all been banned now so the brake pad material is harder
and does wear the discs a lot sooner.

I wore a set of discs out in 3000 miles, Off roading and full of mud which wore them rapidly.

Civic 2.0S front discs and pads all round cost roughly £110 for quality aftermarket (Lockheed Delphi), and were easy to fit, i see no reason why the Jazz ones should be much different, smaller and cheaper if anything.

Call it hour and half labour.

No reason why you couldn't do these yourself.
