Has anyone else been called by this number? Halifax Fraud (08453560024)

Apologies for the wall of text

Started by getting a call to my mobile a few nights ago, I answered it and briefly listened to the automated voice mention something about fraud prevention? Banks seriously need to stop using automated calls to inform people of this kind of thing. You listen thinking it's a fraudster!

Hung up thinking it was scam, but then the number rang the house phone. Done a quick Goggle search and there are various messages regarding this number. They vary from scam to the bank'll lock my card if I don't answer the questions it asks?

Long and short of it was, I rang the Halifax to ask what was going on. I was then told that I appear to be have been a victim of Debit Card fraud. Various attempts to debit over £500 a couple of times have appeared on my account. The woman on the phone said that she would cancel that card and send me out a new one in 5 days, along with a fraud form? Does anyone know what this is?

Went into my account last night to move it to another unaffected smaller account and there is around £23 (from just under £1000) left in my current account. So, I assume Halifax have allowed these transactions to go and I won't get this money back?!

I'm calling into a branch on the way home this evening, not looking forward to it.

Does anyone have experience of this and can help me?

Thanks in advance.

I've had similar happen to me with the Halifax and the money taken from my account was all paid back in by the Halifax, I think it took a day or two, so I wouldn't worry too much about not getting your money back.
You will need to speak to the Halifax though.

This is true, I'm looking advice from people that have had this type of form sent out as a result of fraud. How long did they have to wait for it to be processed etc?

Depends on how long the fraud investigation takes.

Whenever I get a phone call from my 'bank', I ask them what its about, name, department, etc, and ring them back. I'd never give any information to them there and then.
  • Ring up Halifax and ask them if the number is them, they will be able to let you know.

Oh I did. It turned out to be their automated fraud contact thingy. Which led me onto ringing them up and finding out about these transactions.
