10 year Vectra with only 67K on clock, it's got loads of life left. Personally I'd fix it and either sell it or run it. Well, not me, I prefer old BMWs now.

When I needed my clutch replacing on my old Cavalier, I took it to Mr Clutch. http://www.mrclutch.com/

Might not be them, but one of the big names were notorious for forgetting to put the bolts that hold the box onto the engine back in.

I'm not all that convinced of the argument about measuring repair costs solely against a cars market or trade-in value ... very important obviously, but not the only thing. If you have a car that you know is fundamentally good, reliable, well looked after, you have to factor in the risk involved in changing to another car. If you're confident you know a goode reliable dealer who will look after you properly if your next car gives you trouble, then fine ... but it's not always that easy. Balancing the risk of what your present car is going to be costing you vs the risk of what your next one might.

    I agree entirelly

My car is an 11 years old Volvo 960, cost £1750 last year when I bought it and had 206000 miles on it when the head gasket went.

I paid a little short of £900 to the main dealer to replace it. Most would say this is madness, but I am only the third owner and it has a full main dealer service history.

I will run the car for many years and am aiming for at least 500000 miles. As long as it can be fixed it wil be.

    Old Volvo's run forever.
    I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.

ask yourself apart from the clutch problem is the car running perfectly?
if so then shop around and see if you can get the cheapest quote. repair it.

only you or your mechanic know how much life is left in your car. it is pointless to spent £500 on a clutch if you know the engine is worn out etc
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

It has gone wrong three times this year and costing more than the value of the car.

    The cambelt has been replaced

It is the 'slave' gear thingy - I told you I'm not up on the terms but it's pricey as it's labour intensive.
