When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free :D

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :D

Morning all! Hope no-one minds me starting the thread today - woke up at 4.45am and can't get back over so thought I'd do something useful! Got an awful sinus pain and headache, on top of that stomach cramps which tells me I'm due for more this week :( Friday 13th indeed!

Anyhoo...today I will:

- visit gym/pool/sauna for free done..well swim, sauna and jacuzzi
- free lunch at work for me and packed lunch for DS done
- dry clothes on airer done
- phone my dad and nanna with free mobile mins
- check online banks and hope for no shocks! done..no shocks, phew
- bingoport done
- swaggers
- check onepoll, panelbase, VO and spudshillings done

also booked free 7 day gym pass from fitness first

Hope you all have a gret day - I'll be back later to update progress

  • Good morning all, and thanks to spendaholic chick for starting the thread today. And I thought I was an early bird today!
Thank goodness it's Friday and the weekend is coming. I have so much to do in the house, sewing room, garden and allotment that I really don't have time to go to work ;)

    So far:
    • checked banking
    • checked for surveys
    • made packed lunch to take to work
    • updated freezer inventory
    I will also:
    • have filling porridge for breakfast
    • feed and water the chickens and ask for at least 3 eggs today
    • drink free coffee at work
    • knit at lunchtime to avoid going out
    • DO NOT go near the bakery after my little lapse yesterday
    • all meals from stores
    • do some quilting tonight
    • have an NSD
Nearly halfway through the month and desperate for payday to come. I'm feeling at a financial all-time low at the moment and really struggling. Naturally, that affects my general mood and it's making life a little unpleasant right now but, as usual, I will bounce back. :)

  • Good morning, and happy Friday one and all! Thought I would join you today, hope that's ok...

So far this morning I have:
    • Signed up for some freebies and applied to join a panel
    • Checked for surveys
    • Checked the bank :(
    Today I will:
    • Remember my packed lunch :o
    • Walk the couple of miles to my lift's place instead of wasting £1.70  on the bus
    • Stay in and read my book at lunchtime
    • Carve up & freeze the leftovers from the chicken we had last night and make chicken noodle soup with the rest
    • Apply for the better jobs I found in the paper last night, I could definitely do with a pay rise!
Hope you feel better soon Spendaholic Chick, and hope you bounce back soon stitchy. Sending hugs for you both!

    Pink :)
  • I love a good list - find them really motivating!

    Today I will:
    * check the bank, update my spreadsheet and transfer the shortfall I need from savings account to meet my loan repayment (was removed from current account on payday so I didn't spend it!)
    * walk the school run, rather than drive.
    * walk to the supermarket for my fresh weekly shop - not only do I save petrol it also limits the amount I can buy as I have to be able to carry in on the buggy handles.
    * shop with a list and !!! nothing else, check cheapest brand and add up as I go around to make sure I don't spend more than £30.
    * sort the timer out on the heating to come on twice a day as it's been on all day as I've been back at work a long time now! Oops!

Just exactly what I was thinking :)
    • I'm eating brekkie at home - no roll n sos just cos it's Friday!
    • Made a sandwich for lunch to take to work
    • Taking some paperwork into work to put in the confidential waste/recycling bins there ;)
    • Ask OH about the job he's applying for/remind him... (that's me in disguise pretending I'm just enquiring when I'm really reminding him y'see...lol)

We're also visiting grandma tonight but that's far from being MSE - need to get the train there and a taxi home - £20+ round trip... We are sharing a taxi with inlaws but the last time they only gave us a fiver towards it when they knew the fare was £18... so waiting to see what they cough up this time... On the plus side we get the chance to remind grandma that we are getting their old sofa when they get a new one in February :T

    Happy Friday y'all!
