  • looking at one thats done about 120+k miles no service history or some service history,2-20owners sat on a 02-52 plate.

wouldnt bother with the lacetti, would cost you around 2K to repair the thing their not the cheapest parts as some would expect from a vauxhaull in desguise.

Right now i'm looking at this one, it look good you think?

  • There's a nice Renault Laguna 1.8 Dynamique up near me on a 53 plate with 58k on the clock.

It's at a garage called Richardson's of Lincoln. Can't post a link as I am a new user, sorry.

At the money you are talking and no matter how much money you spend, you can never ensure you will get a car that you will not have to poor money into.
  • the 2000 - 2007 plate laguna's have a reliablity problem, its listed on all car review websites including Parkers

If it's lasted 7 year, it's probably had all the niggles fixed by now though.

if its as good as they say why isnt it priced top end of the market £2395?

take all adds as mutten dressed as lamb untill you view and ensure all works and is as described.

if they can prove mileage and prove keepers and prove HPI clear it shouldnt be a bad buy at that price id check whether the timing belt has been replace with a kit the water pump should have been done also, but fords focus are as easy as pie to work on the timing belt and replace the water pump and auxilliaries anyway. pleanty of youtube videos to prove how easy they are to do.

if its clean good shape shape i cant see it being a problem.

    2 years ago I paid just over £2k for a 2004 130bhp diesel estate with 6 gears. On a run i can get 55mpg+

130,000 miles though, But direct to the dealer from auction, Lease care with the printed service sheets they get.

Lots of big bills had been done fairly recently. 2 years on, Its cost me £500, 2 tyres, Brakes, 2 Springs and a few little mods
to improve the power. I expect thats all its going to cost except basic servicing.

Buy on condition and receipts, Not the mileage clock or a book full of stamps but no signs of having faults fixed.

Thanks, so should I not worry too much about mileage, service history etc. and be more focused on if it has receipts for all previous work and if the car is in a general good condition?

Also are dealers warranties ever worth it?
  • Just did a little calculating on my savings and I worked out that if I waited untill April ( the Tax & MoT run out at the end of April on my current car, no chance of it passing) I could afford a £3k car.

So another question, should I buy a £2k car and have 1k spare incase of a problem or two cropping up or have it serviced strait after buying or buy a £2.5 - £3k car which is newer, less miles but have no saving left to repair incase of a problem.

I would, I dont see the need to spend much more than £2000, Leaves me with the cash to buy another or
    fix anything.

Spending all your money and leaving nothing for repairs is mad.
