Camping in North Wales

I would like to take my DD age 6 and OH camping over the Easter Holidays.

My OH does not have the same enthusiasum for camping as DD & I do, so I'm looking at North Wales as its close to my sister and we can de-camp to there if he really doesn't enjoy it or the weather is really bad!

We went for a weekend last year to a festival and a weeks camping to Devon, he liked those two trips when we got there and we all had a nice time!

What I would like to know is if anyone can recommend a campsite? Not bothered about swimming pools, entertainment etc, but we would like electric hook up. We will take bikes and we enjoy walking and would like a beach near by, its going to be a cheap and chearful break so will hope to find lots of free activities!

Any advice?

  • I would suggest reviewing ukcampsite.co.uk as they have a good active forum for canvas camping as well as a directory of UK sites with reviews

just make sure everyone has decent sleeping bags and extra covers in the ca if needed and do try and get EHU if you have a suitable mains kit as you can always add a fan heater etc if really cold. Cold and wet can ruin any camping if not properly equipped

The link above for Nantcol is a good one or even shell island itself. Have a look around Dinas Dinlle or Coed Helen in Caernarfon too . All good areas

Another vote for Nantcol. Great site, great owners, nice and relaxed, campfires not only allowed but postively encouraged, they come round selling logs every evening. Small shop, river you can play in and lots of walks, beach not far away.

The only downside last year was the shower and toilet block was inadequate for the size of the camp due to water supply issues. This has been addressed and by now the addtional shower and toilet block should be well on the way to completion.

Thanks for all the replys, I shall have a look.

We have a small heater for the tent hence the need for hook up, OH won't go if we can't use the heater!

EHU= Electric hook up ! (not being smart just racked my brain for the last 15minutes so thought i would share) If you dont fancy travelling into deepest Wales and are heading from the north west try greenacres animal park in Queensferry kids love it and 1 night(2 days farmpark is cheaper than the entrance fee for a day at the park.(for 4)

Another vote for Dinas Dinlle, specifically this one: http://www.thornleyleisure.co.uk/caravanparks/dinlle

Don't know if anyone else shares my view that the village is an odd place - one long road, one long beach, a few shops (a few of which never seen open, but you can usually buy a paper and a pint of milk). On a positive note, the village got new public toilets a few years ago :T :D

Also - if anyone knows what happened to the family that owned the Dinas Grills Cafe I'd love to know. I'm led to believe the husband/father died suddenly. The family were lovely and it's always such a shame to see the place just left to rot.
