If the order is cancelled, the only monies that the company can claim from her is any genuine pre-estimate of any losses they may incur due to the cancellation. I.e., any work they have done so far and the cost of that work. So, if they have not even measured up yet, the only costs they will have incurred is a bit of admin.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

The OP presupposes that people with "mental health issues" should not be able to have free choice like ordering double glazing. An interesting concept which I do not think is backed up by the law.

That's funny, because I read it differently. I read it as she is concerned for the health of her friend who, whilst suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, gets confused from time to time and may have been taken advantage of. But hey, each to their own.

The OP has not said anything about "being taken advantage of".

There is a lot missing actually in the OP so it is basically guseework what has happened here.

For instance we do not know who actually wants this contract cancelled and for what reason so it can be read in many ways. We know he has had a "spell" in a unit, but is this old gentleman now in some sort of home or institution or is he at home. The OP does not say.

Maybe that is why many people are taking it different ways?

Many people? Or just you? Don't start making this into something that it is not and either give relevant advice to the OP or post elsewhere.

I know of some examples where the company has cancelled the contract when it was so obvious that the customer didnt understand what was going on - and often cannot afford it.

You are right htough - it really depends on the seriousness of the situation and the eprosn would have to be fairly badly ill.
