Royal Mail Special delivery

I note that the tracking service does not include the delivery date/time so a sender would need to check with therecipient to find out if the time was met - thus claims will only be made if the late delivery was a real problem rather than just an inconvenience.I think....0

I note that the tracking service does not include the delivery date/time
It used to, but it made it too easy to claim compensation for late delivery (at least for those that didn't show 11:55 - yea right).0 -
If an item is delayed you can only claim the cost of the postage covered by the guarantee for delivery before 12 noon so if its something really important that critically needs to get there for the next day I would say you’d take a risk to rely on this... When my daughter is at home during University holidays she has previously used this service to send important assignments that have had to be in by deadlines and I realise now just how disastrous it could have been if they had not turned up in time. So basically be careful using this service, it might be proof of posting but it might not turn up on the day you want it to
It might help people to know about the axtra you can pay (sorry don't know how much it is) for consequential loss cover
"You can also apply for Consequential Loss of up to £10,000 - this is when the loss, damage or delay of what you’re sending would cost you more than its market value."0 -
I have had major problems with Royal Mail for approx 12 months now.
Other peoples mail arriving through my letterbox on almost daily basis at one point until I managed to open my door and confront the overseas student that was delivering. After a short conversation I realised that the guy only had a very basic grasp of English and couldn't read properly!
I have had two letterboxes damaged by items being forced through.
In December I received a batch of post that had been "recovered" by the sorting office dated May.
I have recently sent two items of post by recorded delivery which the Post Office have been unable to specify whether or not they were delivered, in actual fact after checking with the recipients one has and one hasn't.
The Postal system has become an absolute farce and is totally unreliable. Unfortunately until it is opened up to competition it will not get any better!0 -
I just wanted to tell people my experiences with the Royal Mail Special Delivery service as I think it’s failing like a lot of the Royal Mail services at the moment.
The track and trace service for the Special Delivery on the net is almost useless as 9/10 times it comes up with 'Sorry we cannot trace this item at this time please try later or ring the helpline'
This particular time I rang the number and they could not trace it either, they told me to check tomorrow as it may be delivered tomorrow. “This is supposed to be next day guaranteed before noon delivery” I told them but they said there was nothing else they could do, as they had no other information. I got concerned so phoned the place it was sent to and they said they have not received it. So I rang Royal Mail back again and they suggested I rang the local sorting office in the area where the parcel went to as they are open till 6 30 PM but they haven’t answered the phone so I couldn’t check with them. I rang back again and they told me to try customer services which I did and they have informed me that they cannot trace it either and they too said it will probably be in the system and to ring tomorrow to see if its been delivered. They said they do not update the Internet site until 2 PM tomorrow afternoon, so much for track and trace on the net and proof of next day delivery.
If an item goes missing you can claim but it has to be missing for at least 15 days and you have to fill in a claim form that you pick up from the post office to start off the claim procedure. If an item is delayed you can only claim the cost of the postage covered by the guarantee for delivery before 12 noon so if its something really important that critically needs to get there for the next day I would say you’d take a risk to rely on this... I send approximately 100 small packages a month via recorded delivery and after having several complaints of non receipt, i decided to check online the tracking/reference number only to discover over half were confirming delivery. I contacted RM to express my concerns as i am paying for a service that they are not providing.......After ALOT of hassle (RM require original recorded slip, name and address of recipient, details of the item posted the cost you paid for it, the cost you sold it at - including proof, how much postage was paid, where it was posted. RM then write to everyone asking if they have received the said items from you...if they don't reply, it is presumed they have received it and you get nothing!) i was eventually paid out just over £1000 :T for 150 items that had gone astray over a 3 month period.
IMPORTANT ADVICE.... TAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING, RM WILL ONLY ACCEPT ORIGINAL PAPERWORK AND BELEIVE IT OR NOT....USE SPECIAL DELIVERY AND INSURE IT! (standard insurance for special delivery is £500) RM LOST MY FIRST CORRESPONDANCE TO THEM...it turned up just after i pointed out that i had taken out extra insurance covering all the original paperwork upto £2500.
I look at it this way... you wouldn't pay for a steak in a restaurant and settle for a burger would you!
