Motability - Can advanced payment be financed?

  • Hi greg, Just wondering - if you need things doing to your car the scheme covers that for you. They do have loads of cars that you dont have to put anything down on....

Hi thank you for all the replies. There are a lot of good cars with no advanced payment. However I need an automatic car hopefully with CVT which means I do not have to think about changing gear ever, as the car does it itself.

I have nerve damage in my legs, feet and hands and am in constant pain the more I move. My surgeon from hell made a disaster of my disc operations and never warned me of the risks. Now I am left with permanent problems. I already have a manual car but cannot drive it.

Apparently you are not supposed to have the V5. Perhaps you should phone Motability and tell them that there has been a mistake.
The vehicle is not yours to keep until such time as the three years' contract is up and you have paid a final value payment in order to keep it.

I already have done, they allow them to be sent out to certain people.

I lease quite expensive cars on the scheme for my son. Generally we have had to borrow the advance deposit, the last one was £10,000. I got a personal loan to cover this and try to make it over the same period as the lease , ie 3 or 5 years (for wheelchair accessible cars). It is not ideal but the whole package from Motability makes budgeting very simple.

In this case then the criteria they set down will cover your disability with the advanced payment, providing you genuinely cannot afford it. It states they will pay if you need a particular car and cannot afford the advanced payment as they have money set aside for this. The rules have changed slightly and make it a whole lot easier.

Thank you for your help, I will look into it thanks.

Just to add i always go through the same dealer as I'm more than happy with them, every time i renew they send me a voucher for £250, the amount depends on the first advanced payment you have to pay and if you go through Ford Majic they will send you a voucher to pay for this up to £300, so you may not have to claim anything. I also got a teddy bear this year with a blue woolly jumper on :)
  • Thanks, Ford are giving a good deal but an advanced payment on a CVT Ford Focus is a ridiculous price. I would prob be ok with a paddle shift automatic car though. I can't use a gear stick manual or auto because of my left hand.

Thanks again for all your help everyone.

I originally wanted the focus sport but the advanced payment was £500, i had a voucher for £250 but seeing as i don't legally ow the car i didn't see the point in spending £250, the only difference being a heated front windscreen, i do miss it but the blowers int he car DE ice it in less than 5 mins anyway.
