Lidls has just gone up to £1.29 this week. I still prefer it to other brands though.price of raw materials ( peanuts ) has risen :-

That explains it!
Also, just noticed Poundland have Original Sunpat Smooth Peanut Butter, 454g jars apparently.0 -

This is true, bit like the baby wipes as well, and pretty much all their products!0 -

Indeed, it seems alot on this forum don't look at
the bigger picture..
Poor harvests, manufacturing costs going up, transport,
the shops overheads etc etc
Some on this forum are so dim its unbelievable, you would
think they would make some connection between all the
major supermarkets increasing their prices and the cost of
raw materials going up.
But nope, Tesco has only increased the cost to shaft them0 -
Not everyone is as clever as you im-lost, obviously. Instead of running people down for their ignorance try explaining the situation instead. We may over react because of our annoyances at times though we are not so stupid as not to understand if you try and explain things properly and with a bit of courtesy. You never know we may even understand, and even if we don't, so what! Not surprising people feel aggrieved if they don't understand how the markets work like you do. It's not that obvious to everyone as you have pointed out.
There are many issues on this forum that appear dim but it would be even more stupid if they didn't ask in the first place. Now that would really be dim!0 -
some of the price increases can indeed be explained by rising material costs, but if you look at alot of the price increases they just don't make any sense0

Such a nice day today I decided to walk in to Twickenham along the river, while I was there I also decided to pop into Poundland. They do sell Sun-Pat peanut butter but unfortunately it's only 227g jars that they sell, slightly cheaper than the supermarkets though only by half a penny. The cheapest Sun-Pat in the supermarkets appear to be Sun-Pat Crunchy Peanut Butter (454g) which is normally £1.99 though is currently £1.85 until 22/02/2012 at Tesco. Actually Tesco is slightly cheaper at the moment.
Also, it appears that Sainsbury's have now put the price of their 340g jars of Basics Crunchy Peanut Butter up to 92p.
Does appears, and as valk_scot has pointed out, Lidls (and maybe Aldi?) are still the cheapest gram for gram.0 -
Increased raw material costs are rarely justification for the level of some of the price rises we've been seeing of late. There is some serious scalping going on and, as ever, the major supermarkets are up to their elbows in it, led by the biggest and probably least liked: Tesco.
Fortunately, it seems people have finally woken up to some of their games..0 -
Still 52p yesterday at ASDA but bought 3 jars as no doubt will be up to 92p next week as all the supermarkets copy each other.0

Appears so. I thought this as well, we've been allowing them somehow to get away with it as well, probably more out of ignorance than anything. Maybe we should really start "voting with our feet" as Tesco puts it. I would though they are my nearest supermarket and ASDA is about 5 miles from me, Lidl and Aldi as well. They do all appear to be the same though in one way or another, especially with respects to price rises. Mind you, I do tend to shop where the bargains are though can't always do this as it can be inconvenient.Still 52p yesterday at ASDA but bought 3 jars as no doubt will be up to 92p next week as all the supermarkets copy each other.
According to mySupermarket 340g jars of ASDA's Smartprice peanut butter are now 92p. There may be however, though don't count on it, some stores that are still selling this for 52p, though not for very long I would imagine.0
