I received a letter from my solicitor stating that my consent order was sealed on 30th December and that the Decree absolute has been applied for. Has anyone got any idea as to how long this will take?.....Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure that it has to have a minimum of 6 weeks plus 1 day. Things may have changed since I got divorced though.:A

The court has to prepare the decree absolute and date it on the day they receive it at the court (unless that has changed in the past 3 years). So allow time for the letter to get from the solicitors office to the court, the court to deal with and post back and then the solicitor to send on to you. Chances are that you will now be divorced, but the paperwork will be somewhere between the court and you. I used to send the decree absolute out with the final bill etc. so that might be holding things up a bit. If you are desperate for a copy just ring your solicitors and ask to collect a copy. Or if you just want to know you are divorced then you can ring the court with your case number and they will tell you when it was pronounced. HTH0

I agree with Nikki - certainly when I went through a divorce many years ago it was 6 weeks 1 day between Nisi and Absolute.0 -
Phew, not just making it up then! I got divorced in 2009 so quite recently but who knows what they might have changed:A

The six weeks one day is if you are applying for the decree absolute straight after the nisi has been granted, you have to allow 6 weeks and one day.
In the case of a consent order which takes a while to come through in my case over a year after the nisi, the absolute is just a matter of stamping and postage in the courts. My consent order was on 23 Dec and came through on the 15 Jan, not bad considering Christmas and New Year were in the way!0
