Car Insurance renewal

Hi Guys,

just wanted some advise on Car insurance.

31yr old male, Peug 206, under 5k miles a year, social domestic only, garaged. 1 year NCB. Accident free driving 10 years.

£700 is cheapest quote. Does that sound about right?

Any tips or smaller companies not included in the comparisons sites that you may have had success with?

Many thanks!!

  • thats a renewal search other companies to find a better deal, you have 1 years NCB being 10yrs accident free means nothing because youve not the 10yrs NCB to back this up.

£700 is about the mark, could add a experienced named driver to your policy (infreuent user) and see if it reduces further, most common cars have a premium tag on them, the more commonn the car the more easy it is for the insurers to put a statistic on it, how many people own a pug 206, 106,107, 1007, 307 ,306 ,407 in this contry, how many involved in accident, now compare that to say a dodge ram wich isnt all too common on our roads, wich one has a higher statistic of being in an accident, the PUG! wich is why we pay more to insurer these brand of cars.

try different sites try the compare sites and try the sites that dont go on compare sites, then try local brokers.

Did you try adding named drivers to your quote/policy?

You'll need to try to add drivers who are older than you, have at least 5 years NCB, and are accident free. Add parents if you can. Add one named driver to the policy and if the price goes down, add a second named driver and see if the price goes up or down.

You'll need to try to add drivers .... have at least 5 years NCB....

How many years NCD they have aquired is irrelevant when adding named drivers. (Their NCD status is not required, and do not need to even be policyholders).

What you do need are mature (pref. female) driver(s) who are incident free over the last 3 -5 years (depending on how long this history is required by the insurer), and who have point free licences.

Half that would almost be a normal price but you didn't say if it was third party or fully comp.
  • hi, that's 3rd party f&t.. tried with adding my father, same address, full NCB, didn't move price.

fully comp is usually cheaper, adding the same person from the house hold doesnt do much unless you father has the same insurer who will offer a multicar policy, try adding someone like a friend in another area, named drivers do not need to give permision to be on a policy and dont even require to drive the vehicle or even know their on the policy at all, it purely a cost reducing excersize.

i just called my insurers to query my renwal price, and give thema quote from another company my insurers were willing to budge on the excess and provide legal and brakedown cover, and drop the quote £45.00 my excess stands at £350, they dropped that to £150 with £0 compulsory, added £35.00 brakedown cover free to the policy and legal cover £12.00 free also, and dropped my premium by £45.00 to keep my custom. worth trying to haggle with renewals.
