Looking for some advice on what to do!!! Please anyone that can help out, I'd appreciate the comments!
Basically, I bought a samsung american fridge freezer from the Comet clearance shop 3 years ago for £500. It was in perfect condition, just out of the box! I took out the extended accidental warranty with it, and about a 1 1/2 years after I got it, one of the shelves broke. I promptly called Comet to replace, and they sent out the part with an engineer to fit it. This engineer proceeded to force the shelf in THE WRONG WAY basically tearing up the plastic on the side of the fridge. I started making complaints about this to Comet, who basically played me about for 1 1/2 years until last week I said enough was enough and I wasn't getting off the phone til someone helped me! Sure enough, they said they would write off the fridge, and gave me a code to go in to the shop with to replace the fridge. So! Off I trotted to the same shop where I had originally purchased the fridge, with the intent of getting basically the newer version of my fridge! Nothing different, just whatever they had! Lo and behold, £500 is no longer quite as much as it was 3 years ago, and since the code they gave me only covered that amount, the store informed me I would have to pay the difference on basically the exact same thing i have. PLUS removal of my old fridge PLUS delivery. In shock, I said I had to think about it, and went home. I then proceeded to call Comet again and have gotten the run around from Customer Care, the Head Office, the store Management - all of whom have said its someone elses responsibility to deal with. Bottom line is, they don't want to give me extra on the code, in order to replace the fridge like for like. What should i do?!?! All i want is my unblemished fridge back, that should have lasted me for years!!!!!!!!!!

What do the warranty's T&Cs say? If they say "like for like", then that's what you should get. If they say you'll be given up to the original purchase price, then that's all you are likely to get. You could well push for more as a customer service goodwill gesture, given that it was their engineer who ruined the fridge, and had he not done so, you'd still have it.
Also, why does it need an engineer to fit a shelf in a fridge?Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
You bought a fridge 3 years ago and you want them to refund you more for the newer version? It's not going to happen. They are putting you back in the same position you were when you first bought it, after 3 years it's a bloody good deal.
Edited, I see you had the accidental damage with it, in this case you should have it replaced on a like for like basis or the full cost refunded.0 -
Bris: No - thats not what i'm saying! I'm saying that I wouldn't be in this position, if they're engineer hadn't broken the fridge in the first place, and i wouldn't even WANT a new fridge at this point! Its a perfectly good fridge! I JUST want them to replace it with the same fridge, or barring that whatever is the current version of that fridge! I DONT want extra money - i just want it to be replaced!!!!!!!!!!!
Esqui: I don't know! Thats just how the shelf arrived...probably would have saved me all the hassle if IIII would have just put it in!!!0 -

No they are not. If they were putting the op "back in the same position you were when you first bought it," they would be replacing the fridge, like for like. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
