Some of us might wish to ensure that we had not been injured! But that is completely different to saying "PRETEND TO BE INJURED", simply to force the Police to investigate. At best you would be charged with wasting Police time; at worst, it would be perverting the course of justice!0 -

Sorry I do not usually bicker. I knew what you meant; he is probably a lawyer, or some other sort of wordsmith. Politicians are the same; they make mountains out of mole hills and let very serious matters pass them by. Have you ever seen them on BBC Parliament?0 -

Sorry, not a wordsmith, or a politician and the only mole hills I see are the ones in the field when I take my cats for a walk!0 -
zorber wrote:yes its true lorry drivers rarely realise when the hit some thing, i was speaking to one of the drivers from our transport fleet only the other day he told me drivers dont feel a thing when the hit some thing they can kock down walls etc and one of our drivers shutted a car backwards 10 meters and basically wrapped it round a lampost and didnt realise he had done it. the lorrys suspension and natural roll is so much that it numbs the driver to anything but what he can see he is doing.
Use this point to steer clear of lorrys especially foreign ones on roundabouts and they wont realise if they take you out.
Yes, give lorries plenty of room, and don't cut them up on the inside when they are indicating to turn left but are straddling the right lane, thinking you can beat them off the mark. Remember, if you are in their blindspot they will not see you. A woman did the very same thing, lorry was in right lane indicating left, she came up the inside, ended up with the back wheels of the trailer going over her car, she called the police who arrested her for dangerous driving and undertaking, from where her car was positioned, the police could see she was at fault, and let the lorry driver go. So much for her being in a hurry, her car was a right off. Another incident, lorry indicating to turn left, bicycle squeezes into his blindspot, he makes the turn, next thing he knew, a car sped in front of him horns blaring and stopped in front of him, causing him to brake sharply, the car driver said theres a woman under your trailer, when he looked she was wedged under, thankfully still alive. What did she put on her accident report form- "I thought (no she didnt) he was going straight but forgot to turn his indicators off."
Lorries and trucks need the extra room when turning, to prevent swiping people on the pavement so give them the room, otherwise undertakers will soon be visiting the undertakers. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

unfortunatly even going to hospital doesnt make the police do a report. i was in a similer crash on the motorway i was driving a mini and a 40ft artic drove into the side of me the police said it was his fault completly and i went to hospital. turns out you have to be in a bad way for them to make a report. the lorry driver denied he was at fault said i undertook him then changed his story three times. i had to have a solicitor and go to court to win my case.
after he told us he wanted to settle but his company refused and told him to deny it all. i won my case but sometimes you just have to see it though. most peoples get sorted before court but not all and at least your in one piece. no one could understand how my car didnt blow up as the petrol tank split and the wheels melted due to being pushed sideways up the motorway but hey at least im here with my little boy.back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0 -
Nowadays I see this at the back of some lorries.

The other classic one that people forget is the fact that when turning lorries (particularly articulated ones) have to go wide and cut in... too many people (mainly on roundabouts) forget the extra turning space that lorries need and try to squeeze through.
If you have the witnesses details then there ultimately should be no issues proving the case (assuming they are independent) and yes, it is commonly stated that lorries do not feel the impact with a car - after all it is basic maths to say that a relatively small impact with a 75 tonne lorry (or more) isnt going to move the lorry much. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Exactly, remember they do not have interior mirrors and rely solely on the exterior mirrors. Also, if you have to cross the road in front of a lorry, make sure you are way in front of it so the driver can see you. Last week, a man made the mistake of crossing the road after the lights had changed in front of the lorry, lorry driver did not see him, and didnt know about it till he reached his next delivery drop where the police turned up and asked him if he knew he killed someone. Body parts were strewn all over the road on on his route and where the impact happened, all that remained was an arm attached to a tesco's shopping bag, the person was only identified by his clubcard.movilogo wrote:Nowadays I see this at the back of some lorries.

I have also heard truck drivers say that they get kids going underneath the trailer unit (cab where driver sits) to cross the road, just because they are too lazy to cross where its safe because its a further 10 yards up the road. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

today i got side swiped by a foreign lorry who pulled across from the inside lane ,yes i do believe he didnt see me i think i was in his blind spot the first bang on the car was level with my back passenger door, that spun me around and along the side of the central barrier, he too claimed not to have done anything and also not to speak english the police tried to question him but he just strugged his shoulders because i wasnt really hurt just shocked i didnt go to hospitial but can see now it would be a waste of time. i have his details but wonder how many people also have had this done to them and have started a thread asking this question.my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0
