Everything is squeaking!

So my sofa-bed's hinges are squeaking when we sit on it. My passenger's car seat is squeaking while I drive, even when no one s sat on it. And - no surprise here - my metallic bed is squeaking too.

How do I stop all this squeaking? Heard of silicon spray, would that work?

Yeah, I know you re tempted, but could u please spare me the rude/cheeky comments? I ve got a toddler who likes jumping a lot and he s to blame. Sorry, son.

Thx!

If the bed is one where there is a "net" of wires across the bed frame which eventually hook into the frame, you might be able to stop it with some vaseline on the points where they interconnect. If its within the mattress obviously you are stuffed (sorry!). Same might work for the hinges on the sofa bed. Its probably not the absolute best thing, but I tend to find because its quite thick it stays in place for a while, and it also won't cause rusting etc.

Car seat you'd need to narrow down the location a bit as it might be inside the seat or the mountings.

Awwww! I was already preparing such a funny comment ;)

I'm having the same problem in my car, I want to spray some WD40 under the seat but keep postponing it (it's always dark these days...)

I think WestonDave is right, except use grease instead. Don't use WD40 though, its not really suitable.

  • With the bed, check all the bolts are tightened up, they tend to loosen over time.
Check the other items for loose or broken parts.
Using silicone spray or grease is a good idea, they are less messy than normal oil or grease and odourless.

No it doesn't. Additionally, it is supurb on 'sticking' curtain rails, give them a spray, work the curtains backwards and forwards a few times and hey presto, curtains that glide. :)

The supermarkets do their own version of WD40 that is much cheaper, for a quick-fix just spray furniture polish on it.
