Making extra income with photography

I am a photographer and have tried selling my rather unique images using the Etsy and Folksy craft web sites along with both Ebay and Ebid, but unfortunately despite getting lots of nice comments about my work, sales were very few and far between... On all these sites, there is more competition than customers and I lost money on all of them....

I have now developed my own website, but seem to be unable to attract clients to it, despite using Facebook/Twitter/blogs - I think selling photographs by the internet is extremely hard graft... Beginning to think of other methods to find custom, but it's difficult when working a full time job 5 nights a week...
