Hi All,
Sorry if this is the wrong section but just wondered if anyone had any luck selling their photography? I have a few of mine listed on a website that produces canvas & prints and you manage your own pricing.... I dont think they sell thousands on there and there is a lot of competition once your image has been accepted. Does anyone know where else they can be sold? Or had any experience in this? I dont particularly want to go down the route of stock photography as they pay peanuts for images that you have worked hard on!
I was thinking of getting them printed & framed and selling them at places (not quite sure where!) Has anyone done this? Was it successful? How did you calculate your pricing structure?
Sorry - I know there are a lot of questions in that but if anyone could help.....
Thanks

Well I've been frequenting a few craft fairs just lately and have come across a few photographers who frame their pictures and sell them and/or make them into things like table mats, key rings, book markers etc and sell them. They must do OK otherwise they wouldnt be coming back each week.
Also a friend's husband takes photos of everything. And I mean everything. He never goes out without his camera. He even took a picture of me standing in the queue for the bank once. Then he puts them on his website which is only advertised on the web through facebook and other networking sites. You can buy pictures from his website. He actually makes a living, and a good one, from this. My friend is a stay at home mum as he earns enough to let her stay at home, they don't qualify for any benefit and they go on 2 month long cruises every year.0 -
Thanks! Have you any ideas of the pricing he uses? (approx)
Thats another thing I struggle with - finding local craft fairs! Is there a website that shows craft fairs in your area?0 -

The guy at the craft fairs charges about £10 for a smallish photo framed and about £2 for things like coasters etc. I have no idea of the pricing my friends husband uses but he must be a lot. He's got a contract to be a photographer for Brian May now so he's done quite well.
I would love to know if there is a craft fair listing site around. I've found a few but there arn't many fairs listed on them. Only the big ones and I want to know about all the little ones as well. I'm going to start a thread asking this question.0 -
Thanks! I have just seen your thread.... I have just seen the first reply so I will keep an eye on it & check those sites! :j
Smallish being what size? 6x4 (regular photo size) or bigger than that?0 -

There are picture libraries that get reasonable rates for pictures, perhaps you have been looking at the wrong sites. I would suggest looking on the BAPLA site for details of the better ones.

Having got my canon 600d over the christmas, I'm going to try getting a few sales there when it gets a bit more warmer. Too cold at the moment lol0 -

This looks to me like one of the "pay peanuts for images that you have worked hard on" sites to me. There are far better places to put your pictures if they are good enough.0 -

There is www . stallfinder . com which has lists of fairs according to area & you are able to add yourself to a list of available stallholders. I get quite a lot of hits on my website that come from there.
(sorry about the spaces - I can't post links yet)0 -
Thanks everyone for all your help! x0
