As you were in the Marines (as my son was) would it be worth you contacting SSAFA - their website says they will help you check you are getting all the right benefits and if necessary help you seek funds from various charities. If you served for 6 years you are more than entitled to this help.

As already asked OP, what is your work history for the past three years?

Thats what is important on this thread.

There is obviously some mistakes here as you are not receiving the benefits you could do. If you have been working the last 2 tax years you should be getting CB JSA, it sounds like there is an error and they have assessed you for income based or you have had gaps in your NI contributions (worth checking the NI number is correct on your last payslips)

They do make mistakes as I was assessed for income based and am on their system as income based but I actually get contribution based.

Tell your partner to call the bursary department and claim additional amount for dependants.
Then she needs to go to her student finance office and fill out an application for a hardship payment.
Students with dependants are high on the list of priority students. The hardship applications are usually only accepted for a short period of time. It was January and October at my university.

    Good luck

FWIW I received a bursary of £1000/month after my husband was made redundant.
It was £400/year for each child and I have 4. I also received mature student payment.

I received tax credits. The basic bursary is not counted as income, but the additional amount is.
